Note from the Principal
ARRIVAL PROCEDURES AT BOONE ELEMENTARY
Arrival and at Boone can be hectic, but if we all follow these guidelines, we will be able to manage the traffic smoothly and safely. If we all follow these procedures, we can avoid a tragedy and eliminate frustration.
Please use the crosswalks!
Parents and students should never walk across the front drive and cross between cars. We have Safety Patrol members to assist you in the crosswalks. Please wait for safety patrol members to enter the crosswalk before crossing.
Teacher Parking Lot
Parents should never use the teacher parking lot to pick up or drop off your student or drive through. We have had many near misses as families move between cars and teachers are parking. We have also had some parents move through the lot at high rates of speed, which can be scary.
In the front by the flag pole
Please stay in your cars and continue to pull forward as far as possible. When you stop to let children get out without pulling all the way up, it causes traffic to back up. In the morning under any circumstances, do not park your car or leave it running to take your child to morning assembly. If you want to walk in the building in the morning, park your car in one of the parking slots on the front streets.
Bus Lane by the bike racks
You are encouraged to use the bus lane to drop students off in the morning. There are safety patrol members to open doors for students and assist them, and they can enter through the side door.
Student Code of Conduct
The 2016-2017 Student Code of Conduct has been posted online in English and Spanish.
The Code will not be printed this year. Please click on the link below:

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR A PAINTING PROJECT
On Saturday, October 1 from 9am-12pm we are going to paint 2 outdoor Peace Paths at Boone Elementary. Our SEL department created stencils to create a sidewalk Peace Path. It will provide students, teachers and our entire campus a space and a method that is safe, sincere, and easy to follow for conflict resolution. It is another effort towards student empowerment to self-regulate and solve their problems.
If you are an adult and love to paint, please email nicole.lozo@austinisd.org to sign-up. Also, if you are interested in donating or providing the materials needed please email me as well. Thank you!
GT Student Nomination Window
AISD’s nomination window has opened. If you would like to nominate your child for the gifted and talented program, please email or turn in the Elementary Parent Nomination Form & Survey to the school counselor or your child’s teacher from September 12-23. Students in grades K-5 are eligible.
This school year we are piloting a change in the GT Screening Process at Boone Elementary. We will be testing students in grades 3-5 in the Fall 2016 Semester and students in grades K-2 in the Spring 2017 Semester. This change will allow younger students to have an opportunity to adjust to the new school year before the students participate in the lengthy GT Screening Process. The GT Screening Process does include online testing which is timed and the gathering of student work samples for the Student GT Portfolio. By separating students into two groups for testing, the campus will be able to test students in smaller groups and provide teachers with more time to collect student work samples and other screening data for younger students.
Elementary Parent Nomination Form & Survey can be found on Ms. Lozo’s website:

PTA News
Hello Boone Families and Community Members!
We’d like to encourage everyone to join our wonderful PTA, which was recently named Best PTA in Austin! We’re so excited about the upcoming school year and hope that you’ll join us.
As a member of the PTA you will enjoy being a big part of your students' education. The PTA was created to help our parents, students and everyone at our school stay connected and grow as a community. Your involvement makes a big difference in what we do as a PTA group and makes our entire school stronger.
There are several ways to be involved this year. There will be PTA meetings, Bingo Nights and Spirit Nights that will benefit Boone. There will be many opportunities for fun and volunteering! But the easiest way to get started and support our kids is to join the PTA.
PTA membership is $8.00 for a single family member, and $15.00 for a family (2 adults). Forms can be found in the office, and checks can be made payable to Boone Elementary PTA. We will also have forms available at the Back to School Nights. You can also pay online at: https://squareup.com/store/BoonePTA.
As a special incentive, the class with the highest enrollment in the PTA will win a fabulous Kona Ice Party! Please contact Martha Napolillo with any PTA membership questions: marthariffic@hotmail.com
A Letter from your PTA President:
Parents,
We are so excited about the start of the new year. I am your PTA President, Serenity Lange. Soon, we will have an updated Document with PTA Board Members’ names, and pictures, so you can all recognize and familiarize yourself with who we are. Over the course of the summer break the PTA partnered with an Eagle Scout, Matthew Ankele, and provided the materials and all funding to create the beautiful new walkway in front of the school. Matthew did an incredible job, and we are so thankful to see your donations to the PTA being used to directly enhance school property. We also worked closely with the Principal, the city, and the school district to have the curb removed from the sidewalk to make crossing the street easier for both the children and our amazing volunteer crossing guards. Last school year, we applied for 3 separate grants, one for technology, one for a shade structure over the dismissal area, and one for funding for playground equipment. While we did not receive any of those grants, we did want to let you know that we applied, and continue to focus on improving all aspects of our children’s time at Boone. We will be hosting our first PTA meeting in the next month, which will give you the opportunity to come and see the budget, cast your opinions on where you would like to see PTA spending and inform the board of where you feel we most need to improve.
Communications: The PTA board will be working on communication this year and would like you all to know exactly what we were able to accomplish this last year and how your donations helped us to reach a lot of really lofty goals. Please look forward to an email, soon which will detail all of those things, and please attend the PTA Meeting. We would really like to hear your thoughts, and help us make the best decisions.
Recent Events: The PTA sponsored Tears and Cheers for the kindergarten parents, Dunkin Donuts graciously donated all donuts, and coffee, creamers etc. It was a wonderful event, and we were so glad to be a part of it. Our programs coordinator, was also able to provide a back to school teacher breakfast for our teachers, to show them just how much we appreciate all the time and effort that goes into creating the perfect learning environment.
T-Shirts: The PTA still has a large number of T-Shirts available for sale in both Youth and Adult sizes. There will be a booth at Back to School night for you to purchase your shirts.
Yearbooks: The yearbook committee is looking for photography volunteers, marketing/sales volunteers and grade representatives. If you would like to be part of the yearbook committee, please email Boonebearyearbook@gmail.com
