Yearbook: Senior Quotes

Reminder: Seniors need to submit their senior quotes to the yearbook along with a senior baby picture if they would like for it to be included on this years senior page.

Also, high school yearbook pre-orders will begin this week. This year, pre-orders can be made online. Yearbooks will be in full color and hard cover. Pre-order cost is $40.00. Pre-orders must be made by May 6th.

After May 6th books will be sold at a regular price of $50.00. Use the following link to pre-order your yearbook today. Yearbooks will be delivered tentatively on June 6th.

Please email Mr. Johnston for questions regarding on-line ordering or if you wish to pay in cash.

Book Fair April 27-May 4

Spring BOGO Book Fair: The PTSO is hosting a Buy-One-Get-One-Free book fair from April 27th through May 4th in the Media Center. All items (books, erasers, pencils, etc.) are buy one and get one of lesser value free! The book fair will be open each day from 8am-3pm. We will also be hosting an evening shopping event on Friday, April 29th from 5:30-8:30pm. See Ms. Herbert in the Media Center with any questions.

Attention Seniors!

Senior Class Trip to Virginia will be May 19th-21st. Students may pay a $40 deposit to secure a place on the trip. The total cost for the trip is $150. It covers 2 nights stay at a hotel and admission into Senior Fest at Kings Dominion. All interested seniors should pick up field trip forms from Mrs. Vines

Senior Night is Tuesday, May 24th, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Dinner will begin being served at 6:15pm. All seniors and 4 family members are invited to attend.Every Senior will receive a gift from the school and may receive awards from other staff members. Please rsvp by May 13th to Mrs. Vines at

Graduation is Friday, June 10th. At this point, all seniors will receive 15 tickets for graduation. Tickets will be given out on Monday,June 6th to all Seniors who have been cleared to graduate. If you need wheelchair or handicapped access, please contact Mrs. Vines to reserve seating.

Substitutes Needed!

If you like interacting with the kids, and can be flexible... If you enjoy different settings and different age groups of kids... This is what you have been looking for! We need substitutes at the Elementary, Middle and High Schools. If you are interested, please email Ms OShea in the Middle School Office.

Dress Code Reminder:

As the temperature rises, please be mindful of the dress code for shorts, skirts and other clothing items.

  • Shorts and skirts should be no higher than 2 inches above the knee
  • shirts exposing midriffs are not allowed.
  • sheer or see through clothing items are not allowed
  • leggings of any kind are not allowed

If your child is in school out of dress code, they will have the opportunity to address their dress code issue, or you will be contacted to bring clothing to your child or pick them up.

Uniforms Needed!

If you have any clean, gently used or new clothes that you would like to donate, we would love to have them! Items needed are: khaki pants, shorts, or skirts, polo shirts-long or short sleeve (white, red, or black), plain sweaters (white, red, or black).

KHS Dance Company Performance

The Kestrel Heights Dance Company will be performing Tuesday, May 3rd in the PSI Theatre at the Durham Arts Council in downtown Durham. The show starts at 7pm and will be about an hour long. This is going to be a very exciting moment for our Kestrel will be the first time many of them have ever performed in a real theatre! We are selling tickets for $5.00 in advance or $8.00 at the door.

Driver's Education Program

There have been some changes to the driver education program provided by DPS. Sign up for a class will no longer been done on-line but instead done at the school where the class will be taken. The summer schedule will be available on the DPS webpage April 8th, information about classroom dates and where to sign up will be listed. Classes will be held in June and July at most of the high schools. Class time is from 8:00 - 12:00; Monday thru Thursday for two weeks.
