McKissick Academy of Science and Technology: 1.21.2022

January 21, 2022

Wow, what a week! It has been a long time since we have had that much snow in South Carolina. This was the first snow, my personal kiddos were able to fully enjoy for a couple of days. I hope you and your families enjoyed your time together whether playing in the snow or having extra time as the weather kept us out of school.

Next week, we are scheduled to be at school Monday through Friday, on a regular routine. We will start our National School Choice week this upcoming week with Monday wearing yellow! We love to celebrate our school and the choices we have with coming to a STEM magnet school.

Over 200 students choice in to our program and we want to continue to advertise all that we provide for our students! Magnet/Montessori Monday is still on the schedule for this coming Monday at 6pm for any NEW families wanting to attend our school.

All events next week are still on schedule except we are postponing our Parenting Workshop with Scaly Adventures. We will have them come later in the Spring.

As always, we are here for you. Please let us know how we can help you as we continue to see our Sharks grow!

Committed to Success,

Heather Touchberry

Magnet School Email and Applications

The School District of Pickens County will begin sending out magnet information and applications for next school year. However, this is only for "new" magnet students that are not currently here and enrolled at McKissick. There is no need to apply again once accepted. However, in the spring we will send out confirmation forms for our current students. We are so thankful for you!

Pup Tales

Each month we host toddler story time for children not in school, ages birth to 4. We read a book, participate in sensory activities, and sing songs. In addition to these activities, we will send home an activity and book with you to enjoy with your child. Please share with any families that would like to participate! They do not have to be connected to MAST.

January 11 Pup Tales is cancelled at this time. We hope to have the January 26 date remain.

Real Men Read

We want to encourage our students to read by emphasizing men around the community reading to them. Any man (connected or not to MAST) is invited to come read to a class. We will provide the book! Please contact Angela Spearman at angelaspearman@pickens.k12.sc.us or 397-2230.
