GISD Band Festival
The 44th Annual GISD Band Festival will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022 from 6:30 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The GISD Band Festival will feature the U.I.L marching shows of all GISD High School Marching Bands. Tickets will be sold at the gate on the day of the event. Tickets are $5.00 per person. Talented Program Applications Open
Students in grades 1-7 can apply for the Art/Music Talented Program from Sept. 16-Oct.16. See the Gifted & Talented (G/T) Education page for details.
Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans of Spanish, Mexican, Caribbean, Central and South American descent. It also marks the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico and Chile who celebrate their independence on 9/16 and 9/18. Schools throughout our district will be holding special activities and programs in honor of this month. School Safety for Parents & Volunteers
We will be hosting in person school safety workshop sessions all school year. Parents will learn the procedures taught to teachers and students on campuses that will help them protect themselves and other students in the event of an emergency. School volunteers are encouraged to attend a school safety session. Registration is required online. Visit our website for more details.
Parent Education Workshops
The department of Student Support & Specialized Services offers parent education workshops virtually that are designed to provide helpful information to our families in an effort to be successful in school, home and the community. Social and Emotional Learning
Our Garland ISD Schools of Excellence serve as model campuses in implementing Social Emotional Learning (SEL). As a way to engage our parents in discussions regarding SEL strategies and curriculum, several campuses across the district are having SEL demonstration showcases throughout the 2022-2023 school year.
