MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Year 4 students will be attending the Communion Commitment Masses this weekend. Please keep these students in your prayers as they commence their First Holy Communion journey.
This Friday is the International Day of Friendship. It encourages us to reach out to friends, make a new friend or reconnect with an old one. Friendships start at an early age and they develop as we get older. Different ages and stages require greater needs and support from friends. When young, a friendship may be with someone to share a game with or with someone who shares the same interest. As we mature, we need more from a friendship including reliability, trust, support and, at times, compassion. With each new friendship, our view of the world broadens and we become more accepting and connected. School is a great place to make friends, to experience joy, fun and sometimes even a challenge. As adults in our children’s lives, it is important to support our children to make friends, allowing them to experience the positives of friendship but also be there to support the challenges of friendship. Encourage your child to reach out to others, experience other points of view and trust them to solve some minor friendship hurdles. This will help them develop lifelong social skills.
We are currently in Phase 5 in regard to COVID restrictions. The following COVID procedures are currently in place when coming onto school grounds, visiting classrooms and for school events:
- Sign in using the SafeWA App when entering school grounds;
- Practise 1.5 metre physical distancing between adults where practicable;
- Sanitise utilising one of the installed dispensers located around the school;
- Students and community members are not to attend school if feeling unwell.
This term, there are many activities where students have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents including Robocup, Performing Arts, Camp and One Big Voice. We are very lucky to have so many opportunities for students to excel everyday at Whitford Catholic Primary School. We thank staff and families for supporting students to participate in all these activities.
With Mrs Elaine Mahon concluding her time at Whitford Catholic Primary School at the end of last term, we are currently advertising for a Social Worker on the CEWA website. In the meantime, if your child requires additional support, please see your child’s classroom teacher who will be able to direct your query to the appropriate person in the school.
Last week, Mr De Maio and Mrs Hunt accompanied student leaders, Rufus MacFarlane-Brewer and Ella Forsyth at the official Liturgy and Opening of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival at St Mary’s Cathedral. Well done to our leaders who represented our student body in such a positive way. The Catholic Performing Arts Festival is an opportunity for students in Catholic primary and secondary schools to come together to acknowledge the arts across the Catholic sector.
The TED Talk at the link below was recently on the news outlining how important the first five years of a child’s life is for their positive development. In a world where technology is so prominent in our homes, it is worth looking at what is really important in forming healthy connected people.

From Term 3, we are offering an additional day in our Pre-Kindy program. The program now runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Families are able to enrol their children for one, two or three days. Please contact the office for enrolment enquiries. We are currently also interviewing for places for Kindy 2023. If your child is eligible to start Kindy in 2023, please complete an application form to ensure you do not miss out.
Best wishes and God bless
