Elida Awarded for Service & Commitment to Miltiary Students/Families

We are proud to have been named a “Purple Star School” from the Ohio Department of Education for serving students and families connected to the United States Armed Forces and Ohio National Guard. A virtual recognition ceremony with Ohio’s Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria was held on Tues., Sept. 29, 2020.

Elida Elementary, Middle & High School were each awarded individually for their commitment to serving military-connected students and families.

The Elida School website contains helpful resources for military families linked here.

Elida Superintendent Joel Mengerink remarks “We are honored that each of our buildings received this recognition today. It takes a team of people working together that demonstrate a commitment such as this to serve our students and families that are associated with the different branches of the military.”

Class of 2020 Mural Completed

Levi Winget, a graduate of 2020, took on the challenge of the Senior Mural by himself when school was closed in March. The art class had just begun the layout, but Levi took the project home, completing it over a couple of months. Levi tells us he wanted to have the painting reflect what was happening at the time. "Schools were moving to online classes and people were very unsure of what was going to happen. I decided to make the school look like it was turning into pixels to symbolize that push towards online learning. Using the dark colors I wanted to create a feeling of the unknown. I’ve heard some people say that there should have been words or masks on it, but I felt that there wasn’t a natural way to implement them (and I don’t think anyone wants to see the number 2020 after this year."

What an amazing image and so well done! Thank you, Levi, for completing the mural, and especially for not adding any masks!
