The students enjoyed learning about and celebrating Palindromes this week. We also said farewell to Mr. Merril, our beloved custodian, who dedicated over 20 years at Montgomery Elementary. He was grand marshall of his farewell parade! The children rang cowbells, shook pom-poms and created signs to say goodbye. We will miss him.
Best,
Amy

OPTIONAL COGAT TESTING COMING SOON
Parents interested in gifted testing for their child will have an opportunity to sign up on March 4, 2022 to take the CogAT test. The testing dates are March 29, 30, 31 before school, starting at 7:50 am.
Additional information will be provided in next week’s Smore.
Should my child take the CogAT?
This decision is based on what you think is best for your child.
Considerations:
Consider the grade level and whether the assessment will affect placement.
K - 2 students will not receive services until 3rd grade.
Consider the readiness level of Kindergarten and first graders.
All 2nd graders take the assessment, which determines placement for 3rd grade, when services begin.
4 - 8 placement could change based on a qualifying score.
Consider that whole-grade level testing is offered in 2nd, 4th, and 6th grade.
District Thoughts:
Parents make their own decision regarding if their child takes the CogAT or not.
Read Across America
In celebration of "Read Across America", we will be reopening our Free Little Library at Montgomery Elementary. If you have some gently used books that you would like to donate, we are happy to accept them starting Tuesday, February 22nd through Friday, March 4th. Books can be brought in by the children and dropped off in the media center or left at our front doorway in a box marked "Free Little Library". Thank you for sharing literacy with all of our students. Our goal is for every child to go home with a book on Friday, March 4th (regardless of whether or not they were able to donate).

Dear Montgomery Families,
Our next General PTO Meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 9 @ 9:30am at the Montgomery Elementary School Cafeteria/Auditorium. Please mark your calendars for this exciting opportunity to meet in person and once again visit the school. All guests will need to check in at the front office and follow all current Healthy Aves Protocols.
Our program will include a special guest presentation by Principal Matt Tudor of E.H. Greene Intermediate School. This will be an excellent opportunity for parents, especially those who have 4th graders, to initiate conversations with Mr Tudor and learn about the transition to 5th grade at E.H. Greene.
We also intend to present PTO members with our vision for the 2022-2023 school year and possible volunteer opportunities. As Montgomery Elementary continues to open up, the school will be in need of additional volunteer support from parents looking to make an impact. We're looking forward to welcoming everyone back!!!
Boosterthon:
Thank you for your incredible generosity and help in making the Boosterthon fundraising program a big success. The Boosterthon program wrapped up Friday, February 18 and represented the PTOs primary fundraiser for the 2021 - 2022 school year. Proceeds from this fundraiser support the PTO operating budget (Click here) and spring special requests. For the spring, we've been asked to help fund lighting improvements to the Auditorium/Cafeteria Performing Arts area and to help support improvements to the media center. Even though the program concluded last Friday, donations can still be made through the end of the month. Including corporate matches, we've raised approximately $29,000 which will go a long way to help the school and teachers rebuild assets on (what is hopefully) the back end of the pandemic.
Register on MYBOOSTER.COM if you would like to make a contribution.
Congratulations to the 4th grade for raising the most funds as a class and winning the pizza party! We held the party on Wednesday with pizza from LaRosa's Blue Ash and fresh Opel Apples from Pipkin's Market.
THANK YOU to Barre3 Montgomery (located across the street from Montgomery Elementary) for sponsoring the Boosterthon Prize party! Barre3 is a full body workout including a combination of strength conditioning, cardio, balance and mindfulness. Childcare is available during morning classes. Email montgomery@barre3.com and mention you're a Montgomery Elementary parent to schedule a free trial class, or Click here for special offers for new clients!!!
Yearbook:
We're excited to be working on our current yearbook and actively looking for photo participation from our families! Families who wish to submit photos for the yearbook can do so by emailing them to:
mtptoyearbook@sycamoreschools.org
Please include descriptive text such as "first day of school, halloween, pajama day, snow day, winter break, etc." in order to help us organize the photographs both chronologically and by event. The more descriptive detail, the better.
Yearbooks can be ordered through Lifetouch by clicking here. The Yearbook ID is 14518622 and should auto populate. Price is $20 per unit. Orders will be accepted through the end of March.
Respectfully,
Kristofer Johnston
