FCPS Virtual Learning Academy

October 1, 2021

Welcome October and Fall Weather!

Our students, teachers and staff have worked very hard this fall to get the school year off to a good start! I am excited that all will have a couple of days off next week to enjoy fall break! There will be no classes on Thursday, October 7th or Friday, October 8th for fall break!

The end of the first grading period will be October 13th. Please touch base with your student(s) to ensure they are on track to complete their assignments prior to that date. I would encourage all families to download the Parent Infinite Campus app as well as the Canvas Parent app. A quick check of these apps once a week will give you a good idea as to if your student(s) is on track to finish the grading period strong.

Important Dates:

  • October 7 & 8: Fall Break for all FCPS students
  • October 19: Progress Reports/Grades will be available on Infinite Campus, K-5 Material Pick up at VLA headquarters.
  • October 25: AP Exam Registration opens for VLA students. More Information will be sent to the students this month

K-5 Material Pick Up

Big picture

Julie Gaskin - Registrar

After teaching in Fayette County for 41 years and working as a Digital Learning Coach for VLA last year, I retired in June only to miss everyone so much that I’ve returned to VLA this year to serve as Registrar. The VLA teachers and staff are top notch and I’m proud to offer my support. I’m often the voice you’ll hear if you call VLA and I’m working to keep our student records updated. I’ve now been around so long that I wonder if I had any of you as my students! In my spare time I love to read, play on my iPad, and I’m trying to decide on a pet.

Brittany Grose - MS Resource Teacher

Mrs. Grose is beginning her 7th year as a Special Educator in the middle school setting. She is a Lexington native with roots planted in Jessamine County. She is married to her high school sweetheart and has three children. She enjoys being a lifelong learner, having recently completed her Doctorate in Educational Technology and she loves to challenge her students to be the best versions of themselves in and out of school. Her hobbies include reading, spending time with family, traveling, and experiencing anything new and fun.

Allison De Vries - Intervention Teacher

I am a mom to a crazy 2-year-old boy named Jaxson. This is my 6th year of teaching, I took 2 years off to stay home with my son and I am so happy to get back into it! I have worked with middle school and high school students and I am very excited to drop down and work with some of the elementary students as well. I love reading, baking and sewing. I also love the UK Wildcats and watching college sports!

Thanksgiving Break

FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Liggins announced this week that FCPS will extend Thanksgiving break to the full 5 day week! It has been a tough year for families, students, teachers and staff so a week long break will hopefully provide some time to relax and enjoy time with your families.
