Lucas Letter
Greetings,
Highcroft's Spring Conference Night is March 5th, from 4:15-8:15 pm. If you have not had an opportunity to sign up for a conference time, please contact your child's teacher to arrange a meeting.
There has been an increased number of families dropping off students in front of the school. In the interest of student safety and procedures for getting buses on and off of the school's parking lot, unless you are parking and coming into school, please use the carpool lane to drop off your child to school.
Trivia Night is April 4th, at the Chesterfield Jewish Community Center. This event is our biggest fundraiser of the year! Please consider joining us for this event this year.
Remember that Trivia Night helps fund Art Partners, Popsicles with the Principals, Class Parties, Teacher Appreciation Week, Teacher Grants, and many other committees and projects that make Highcroft a better place. Curious about Teacher Grants? In the past, the PSO was able to purchase new soccer goals, new basketball backboards, a cello rack, flexible seating options in various classrooms, fund field trips, books, and much more.
In partnership,
Cartelia Lucas
Principal

Musical Notes
Mr. Spector, Music Teacher
March is Music In Our Schools Month. We have an amazing opportunity to celebrate and honor the arts. 107.3 FM, The Radio Arts Foundation has an excellent slogan. “A great nation deserves great art.” I take this to mean that the arts deserve their due appreciation, study, and sharing with others. This March, take a moment to pause and listen to some music whether it is classical or otherwise; or perhaps go to the art museum. Take some time to enjoy our world’s great music and art!
Kindergarten is learning about active listening. Using Camille Saint-Saens’s Carnival of the Animals as our primary composition, we are learning how to listen to high and low sounds as well as different types of sounds, known as timbres.
First Grade is beginning to work on their musical. We are learning the music and will soon begin to receive lines and characters. Learning how to act out a character takes craft and skill. A Year with Frog and Toad! is the 1st grade musical.
Second Grade is starting on their musical. We are learning the music and will be assigned characters. Seussical: the Musical is the 2nd grade musical.
Third Grade has begun work on their musical. We are learning the music and will be assigned characters. School House Rock Live! is the 3rd grade musical.
Fourth Grade has started to work on their musical. We are learning the music and auditions are underway. Annie is the 4th grade musical.
Fifth Grade is beginning to work their musical. We are learning the music and auditions are underway. I Need a Vacation is the 5th grade musical.

We have started note reading and it is very important that your child practices the note reading sheets at home to help them memorize where the notes are on the music staff. Students are expected to be able to read notes on the D & A strings when they enter 5th grade orchestra so that is one of our main focuses 3rd trimester. Your child should be bringing their instrument home to practice throughout the week/weekend.
