Sixth Grade Newsletter
February 18, 2018
Dear Parents,
Tuesday is Jammies for Jase Day! Students can wear pajamas to school, and we will be accepting donations for Jase, a Boyne City child with severe flu complications.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Mrs. Garver's conferences are on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 4-7 because she will be in Lansing for her daughter's Poetry Out Loud competition on Thursday.
English
Some students have finished their argument writing and will move on to an enrichment writing activity while the rest of the students complete their writing.
We continue our grammar study with mentor sentences and our vocabulary study with root words. Students are encouraged to read independently at home.
Math
This past week students continued working with the U.S. Customary Unit system and the Metric System. They also learned how to convert between systems. On Monday, February 19th, students will have a quiz over lessons 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3.
They also have 2 assignments due: Pages 325(2-11)/326(1-6) and pages 331(2-11)/332(1-6).
Looking ahead, this week students will be transforming units and solving problems involving distance, rate, and time. They will also be reviewing for the Chapter 6 test, which is scheduled for Monday, February 26th & Tuesday, February 27th.

Social Studies
Mrs. Pott: Students have been assigned days for "where in the world" and they have been doing a super job finding pictures that are great for observing. We are studying Australia (including Oceana). This week we will concentrate on Australian landforms and human interaction with the land.
Mrs. Garver: We are preparing for our first Mystery Skype events this week. We have scheduled one class at 4:00 Tuesday and one at 10:00 Thursday. If there is no school Tuesday due to inclement weather, we will re-schedule for Wednesday at 4:00. Parents are welcome to observe the Mystery Skype sessions. I will provide a pizza snack after school while we strategize. The rest of the week, we will be studying how water affects where and how people live, especially in Australia and Oceana.
