Digital Citizenship
Grade 9 Technology Unit - Design Cycle Guide
Assessment Task
Description of task: The overall objective is to increase the students’ awareness and understanding of their digital citizenship responsibilities and their digital footprint and how they can influence this. Students will investigate digital citizenship and issues relating to digital footprint and design, plan and create a product for a target audience communicating issues relating to digital citizenship and digital footprint and evaluate the effectiveness of their product.
Context: Digital Citizenship is a concept which helps students/children/technology users understand how to use technology appropriately. Digital Citizenship aims to prepare students/technology users for a society full of technology. Too often we are seeing students as well as adults misusing and abusing technology.
Challenge: Your challenge is to investigate, design, plan and create a product for a target audience that communicates issues (raises awareness and influence the audience to do the right thing) relating to digital citizenship and digital footprint and evaluate the effectiveness of their product.

Investigation
Criterion A: Investigate
For Your Design Cycle Report
Design Brief – Create a product for a target audience that raises awareness and influence the audience to do the right thing, in relation to digital citizenship. The overall objective is to increase the students’ awareness and understanding of their digital citizenship responsibilities and their digital footprint and how they can influence this. Students will investigate digital citizenship and issues relating to digital footprint and design, plan and create a product for a target audience communicating issues relating to digital citizenship and digital footprint and evaluate the effectiveness of their product. Your challenge is to investigate, design, plan and create a product for a target audience that communicates issues relating to digital citizenship and digital footprint and evaluate the effectiveness of their product.
Design Specifications: The student must create a product that will raise awareness in the secondary school at NISC. The product must be informative and then must provide simple and clear instructions about what to do/ what not to do. The product will be a XXX and must contains: XXXX
- Target audience ?
- Technology to be used?
- When and how the campaign will be run?
- how large/small the product will be?
Testing Method – I will test my product Friday, 20th of Sept with 5-7 classmates. They will test the product and measure it using the following criteria: XXXXX The feedback will be collected through a survey/feedback sheet/interview.
Research Focus
- list some questions that will guide your research
- digital citizenship - explained
- one digital citizenship issue represented on an infographic
- public awareness campaigns - explained
- public awareness campaigns - examples of excellent public awareness campaigns
- public awareness campaigns - the variety outlined
- NISC IT Use Policy - include this in your report and include your own thoughts about the policy, in relation to digital citizenship

Plan
Criterion C: Plan
Detailed Plan
Action: Create a Detailed Plan
Resources: Calendar and computer
Allocated Time: 60-90min
Reflection and follow-up: My plan creation was completed quickly (30min) and my greatest concern is that I have two full weeks to create my product and 5 classes, but most of my work (filming) needs to be don outside of class time - so I need to be careful to use my time in class wisely. I'm also concerned that I have allowed only one weekend for filming and 5 days for editing... I am concerned that editing will take longer because I am using iMovie for the first time.

Create
Criterion D: Create
The Product
When I revisit my original design idea and compare this with my finished products there are some noteworthy changes and I will outline several modifications here:
- my original design was going to be information heavy, however, after considering my target audience and researching other products I decided to reduce the information and use less word, with more meaning and which had a more influential message.
Evaluate
Criterion E: Evaluate
The Test
Here are the findings from my survey:
Evaluation
When I consider my own performance during the DESIGN stage, I believe that I ...
When I consider my own performance during the PLAN stage, I believe that I ...
When I consider my own performance during the CREATE stage, I believe that I ...
When I consider my own performance during the EVALUATION stage, I believe that I ...
