A Fresh Start is Coming!

Looking Forward
Winter Break The last week of school before Winter Break is December 7-December 11th. This is also the end of the quarter and first semester. Teachers will be completing final grades, so make sure all student work is turned in beforehand. Please reach out to your teachers if you have specific questions about your grades. Winter Break is from December 14-January 5th. | Starting with Remote Learning Omaha Public Schools announced that we will be starting with remote learning for the beginning of second semester. The first day of remote learning is January 5th for all students. Students will continue to have their classes following the regular bell schedule. See bell schedules here: 5/6 7/8. We will welcome students back into the building with the 3/2 Family Model on January 19th. | Check Infinite Campus Before we start the second semester, it is important that all students check their Infinite Campus. Click here. You can find the new quarter classes and teacher information there. Remember, this a fresh start in all classes, so let's start off strong! Here's a reminder about the expectations for Remote Learning: Remote Learning Expectations |

Plans for Winter Break?

Scholastic Picture Retakes
The dates for the retakes are: January 26th for A-K students and January 28th for L-Z students. Fully remote students can come either day. Call before you come to school for specific retake times.

New Attendance Information
Friendly Reminders:
- if your student is attending "in-person" and you choose not to send them to school on their "in-person" day, they will be marked absent for the day even if you have them do remote learning for the day
- if they are supposed to be "in-person" they need to be here "in-person" on their correct days unless they are sick, or you call them out for a different reason
- if you decide to move your student to "remote learning" you will need to contact the Buffett School Office at 531-299-2320

20-21 Yearbook Orders
The yearbook cost is $35.00 before Holiday Break and then $40 after. We would love to see more 8th grade Ads purchased. Please purchase both of these online at https://yearbookforever.com/schools/alice_buffett_magnet_middle_school_buy_yearbook_424/
We will be previewing parts of the yearbook in the next few weeks. Follow us on Twitter at @YearbookBuffett for previews and requests for photos.
Photos can be uploaded to our server with the Yearbook Snap app. Find our school and use the password yearbook2021 so we can have more photos of our remote Bobcats. 🙂

Snow Days are Changing in OPS
The frost outside last Wednesday morning made it clear: winter weather is fast approaching. We know this year has presented challenges unlike any other, so it is especially important to maintain student engagement even if winter weather gets in the way of learning at school. Thanks to our 1 to 1 Technology Initiative, we now have the opportunity to support students with teaching and learning at home.
"Live," or synchronous teaching and learning will take place in the morning, with teacher availability for questions or additional support in the early afternoon with Office Hours from 1-2pm. Teachers will take attendance.
Here's the adjusted bell schedule for snow days:
1/2 Block: 8:40-9:10
3/4 Block: 9:15-9:45
5/6 Block: 9:50-10:20
7/8 Block: 10:25-10:55
Office Hours: 1-2pm
