A Fresh Start is Coming!

As we round out the last two weeks of the first semester, Buffett teachers and staff want to say THANK YOU! Thank you for an awesome start to this incredibly unique school year. Thank you for being flexible and working through all of the challenges that we faced together so far. We are forever grateful to our staff, families, and students who make Buffett so amazing. The resilience we are seeing from our Bobcats is second to none. Next semester is a fresh start for everyone: a new semester with new quarter class teachers and a fresh grade book. It is another opportunity to show our best selves. Also, a new beginning that will come with its own challenges. Thankfully, we know that no matter what, we will continue to work through them together. #wearebuffett

Scholastic Picture Retakes

Buffett is offering picture retakes for students that missed the original date or who would like to try again!

The dates for the retakes are: January 26th for A-K students and January 28th for L-Z students. Fully remote students can come either day. Call before you come to school for specific retake times.

New Attendance Information

Did you know that you can now email your child's attendance instead of calling the attendance number? If your child is going to be absent, send an email to buffettattendance@ops.org or call 531-299-2328.

Friendly Reminders:

  • if your student is attending "in-person" and you choose not to send them to school on their "in-person" day, they will be marked absent for the day even if you have them do remote learning for the day
  • if they are supposed to be "in-person" they need to be here "in-person" on their correct days unless they are sick, or you call them out for a different reason
  • if you decide to move your student to "remote learning" you will need to contact the Buffett School Office at 531-299-2320

20-21 Yearbook Orders

The yearbook cost is $35.00 before Holiday Break and then $40 after. We would love to see more 8th grade Ads purchased. Please purchase both of these online at https://yearbookforever.com/schools/alice_buffett_magnet_middle_school_buy_yearbook_424/

We will be previewing parts of the yearbook in the next few weeks. Follow us on Twitter at @YearbookBuffett for previews and requests for photos.

Photos can be uploaded to our server with the Yearbook Snap app. Find our school and use the password yearbook2021 so we can have more photos of our remote Bobcats. 🙂

Snow Days are Changing in OPS

The frost outside last Wednesday morning made it clear: winter weather is fast approaching. We know this year has presented challenges unlike any other, so it is especially important to maintain student engagement even if winter weather gets in the way of learning at school. Thanks to our 1 to 1 Technology Initiative, we now have the opportunity to support students with teaching and learning at home.

"Live," or synchronous teaching and learning will take place in the morning, with teacher availability for questions or additional support in the early afternoon with Office Hours from 1-2pm. Teachers will take attendance.

Here's the adjusted bell schedule for snow days:

1/2 Block: 8:40-9:10

3/4 Block: 9:15-9:45

5/6 Block: 9:50-10:20

7/8 Block: 10:25-10:55

Office Hours: 1-2pm

Winter is Coming!

Remember that with the cold temperature knocking at our doors, students should be prepared to be outside throughout the school day. Stay warm, Bobcats!
