Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
January 21, 2016
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
Failure is not an option! No zero’s allowed! It is harder to get an F than a passing grade! Students are not allowed to be intentional non-learners. (An intentional non-learner is one that chooses failing or low grades rather than individual effort for school success.)
Perhaps you have heard these or similar statements as you have attended school functions. The statements do not mean lowering standards or grading scales. Quite the opposite, the statements are intended to communicate that success is expected from every student. How is success achieved from every student? A few ideas include:
*Students are expected to attend school and be prepared to learn.
*Teachers will work to engage students for deep understanding.
*Students will have high expectations for their own learning.
*Teachers will structure activities to provide specific re-learning of the skills and activities being taught.
*Students will participate in intervention or re-learning activities to master the concept.
*Teachers and school staff will be available to assist students.
*Parents should be checking for homework completion and ensuring family performance expectations are met.
Teaching and re-teaching is a positive strategy for student success at all levels. Principals are constantly encouraging faculty to: have student content so intriguing students want to be in class and direct individual student learning for maximum achievement. The future success of your student and our community relies on successful cooperation between kids, parents, and teachers!
Please do not allow your student to be an intentional non-learner. Seek assistance from the school faculty for home strategies to support your child’s academic performance!
Thank you for sending great kids for us to work with!
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.

You can access the snow route information from our website at http://www.fulton58.org/vnews/display.v/ART/51c310d9c8f7c
Here are some additional points on snow routes as we approach the winter season:

- Snow routes may be needed due to significant accumulation where crews are unable to clear bus turn-arounds, cul-de-sacs, and other treacherous areas.
- Buses may be as much as 15 minutes early or late to any bus stop. Please dress students appropriately for the weather in preparation for longer than normal wait times.
- When snow routes are running, they will run for both AM and PM routes.
- You will receive a call, email, and/or text from FPS regarding school cancelation or the running of snow routes. This information will also be posted on the website at www.fulton58.org, and on the FPS Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Fulton-Public-Schools-298183414812/ and recorded on the school information line--573-590-8014.
