Husky Happenings Family Edition
Week of March 7th
Husky Families-
Can you believe it is already Spring? The school year is flying by! As we head into Spring Break, please remember that the grading period ends and it is EARLY RELEASE (1 pm) this Friday. We had a great turnout this past weekend for HB4545 Tutoring. Our Huskies were treated to a donation of chicken tenders from Canes and we also had pizza and prizes. Please remember there will be NO HB4545 TUTORING for the next 2 Saturdays. This week, the teachers are continuing to speak with the students about their grades and the failure rate from the most recent grading period. After Spring Break, we will look at the failure rate again and determine if there is a need to implement a No Phones Policy (except for before and after school) for the next 9 weeks. Please encourage your students to turn in their assignments and attend tutoring with their teacher or in our Husky Help Center (M-TH 4:15-5:30 pm).
Hugs and High Fives and as always, please reach out if you have any questions or need help.

Huffines PTA Needs YOUR help!
Hey Parents & Community!
The PTA board has several open positions for the 2022-2023 school year and needs volunteers. This is a great way to get involved and make an impact at our amazing school! The commitment is minimal - especially compared to elementary schools. Our PTA hosts 1-2 events per month including staff appreciation. Please email HuffinesMSPTA@gmail.com if interested.
Open Positions:
-President
-VP Fundraising
-VP Membership
-Secretary
-Parliamentarian
-Council Delegate
Thank you in advance and we hope you'll consider being part of the Husky PTA family!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Knibbs
PTA President
Spring STAAR Interim
We will be conducting our Spring STAAR Interim Reading and Math Test on Friday, March 25th. There will be one test in the morning and one test in the afternoon. With that in mind, we are asking that doctor’s appointments NOT be scheduled for that day. This is the predictive measure the school will use to determine if students will be set up for HB 4545 tutoring hours in the summer. We will make a plan for them to attend tutoring on our campus for 30 hours for each STAAR subject test they do not pass with a 70%. (8th graders could potentially have 120 hours, 7th & 6th grade could have 60 hours). If students pass the real STAAR in May (we will get scores in June), they will NOT have to attend the tutoring hours. The test will be paper copies of STAAR released test items, but some students will have the capability to use their iPad for specific accommodations and calculator features when taking the test. Therefore, we are urging student to submit any work tickets and/or pay fines to allow them to have a working device and charger for this day.
HFMS Campus TAPR Report, Federal Report Card and School Report Card Now Available
The Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) pull together a wide range of information on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas every year. Performance is shown disaggregated by student groups, including ethnicity and low income status. The reports also provide extensive information on school and district staff, programs, and student demographics.
The TAPRs were previously known as the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) Reports.
The most current report is now available on our website. If you would like a paper copy, we have them in the front office.

Husky Parents,
We want your child to be successful in school, and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills for learning challenges, making good decisions, handling strong emotions, and getting along with others.
We will continue the Second Step® program during huddle this week for 6th and 7th, designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem solving, and empathy by learning about trying new strategies, learning from mistakes, and their own interests and strengths. This week's lesson will focus on how emotions control decisions and thoughts. Please see this week’s Parent Letter, regarding our objectives.
8th Grade will focus on learning more about Course and Electives in High School and creating an academic and career goal.
Even if you missed last week, you can still register for the remaining classes for the districts' Love and Logic parenting resource opportunity! It is offered in English and Spanish through Webex. Please use the link below to register. This is a 3 week course that began February 22nd.

- Huskies who miss 3 or more consecutive days will need a doctor's note upon return.
- If you are choosing to quarantine your Husky due to a close contact at school, you will need to send a note stating this decision when they return, call Miss Harper (469-713-5990 Ext. 4901) or you can email Miss Harper at Harperk@lisd.net.
