We are extremely exited to offer kindergarten transition days this year. These two days are a time for our incoming kindergarten students to get to know the routines of the school day. It's also a time for teachers to gather information on students so they can make the best decisions for them as the year progresses.
Transportation will not be provided, so students will have to be dropped off and picked up both days. We highly recommend students attend on these two days, even if they attended summer school.
Kindergarten class lists will not be finalized until after both transition days. This means that there could be a change in placement before Open House.
What to Expect!
- Meet teachers, see classrooms, play on the playground, learn routines, enjoy a snack, and start to get comfortable with Callaway Hills.
- Classroom teachers Mrs. Clervi and Ms. Scobee will be ready to meet their new Callaway Cougars!
- Students will also meet other members of our Cougar Dream Team:
Mrs. Pistel, Principal
Mrs. Parks, Counselor
Mrs. Hotz, Preschool Teacher
Mrs. Murray, Behavior Interventionist
Mrs. Ahart, Administrative Assistant
Mrs. Webb, Administrative Assistant
- Students will not need any supplies or backpacks for Kindergarten Jumpstart; these supplies should be brought to school at Open House on Thursday, Aug. 18th from 5-7 p.m.
- The teachers your student works with during Kindergarten Jumpstart may not be their teacher for the 22/23 school year. Students' room assignments will be revealed at open house.
- Parents are responsible for providing transportation and may drop students off at the front entrance of Callaway Hills 7:45 - 8:00 a.m. and may pick them up in the car rider line by the Gym at 10:50 a.m.
We are looking forward to seeing our newest Cougars on August 17th!
Open House - Thursday, August 18

STUDENT ARRIVAL PROCEDURES
When can my child be dropped off?
School doors open at 7:15 a.m. each day. There is NO before school supervision provided for students until 7:15 a.m. There will be teacher supervision at the front door each morning beginning at 7:15 for student drop-off.
Where do I drop my child off?
Parents are to drop off ALL students at the front of the school. Please follow the directions of the staff supervising traffic in the mornings. Students being dropped off will enter through the front Office entrance beginning at 7:15 a.m.
What is the process for dropping my child off?
Please follow the directions of the staff and Safety Patrol students supervising traffic in the mornings. Look for cones to assist in traffic flow.
If you have to put your car into park to help your child out of the car in the mornings, the procedure is to pull into a parking space and let all other cars continue to unload.
Where does my child go once they enter the building?
7:15-7:40 - Students will choose to eat breakfast in Cougar Cafe or walk directly to their classrooms.
7:45+ - Students should report to the office with their parent for a tardy pass. This year, parents must accompany students to the office to officially sign-in their student. Mrs. Ahart is not permitted to sign your child in as present. Please help our school keep your student safe by walking them in when they arrive after 7:45.
Busses arrive at Callaway Hills at approximately 7:15 a.m. Please contact First Student
at 573-634-7645 with questions regarding bus transportation.

STUDENT DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
Students will be sent home as the parent indicated on the transportation form during registration. If you need to change the way your child goes home, you must notify the office by 2:00 p.m. that day in writing or by a phone call. Students will not be sent home an alternate way without written or verbal permission from the parent to the office staff. Once the dismissal process begins at 2:30 p.m., we will not interrupt the flow. Please make arrangements prior to 2:00 p.m.
To ensure your child’s safety, we do not dismiss students to anyone who is not listed on the census form completed at registration (student contact list). It is important to keep the school office personnel informed of changes that need to be updated in the student’s file.
Dismissal is a procedural process and will need to be followed to ensure the safety of all of our students. Please help us keep your child safe by following the procedures and guidelines set forth.
When are car riders dismissed and what is the procedure for picking my student up as a car rider?
At approximately 2:45, the “car riders” will start being dismissed from the Gym. Please be sure to have your Cougar Placard (car tag) in a visible location for our school dismissal supervisors to correctly call your student to the car pick-up line. Again, to ensure your child’s safety, we do not dismiss students to anyone who is not listed on the census form completed at registration (student contact list). Please have your photo ID ready if you are new to pick-up at Callaway. Parents will stay in their vehicles and students will be brought out to you. If you do not have a placard, you will need to park in the front parking lot and come to the office to sign your child out.
Please be aware that cars begin to quickly back up on AA, if possible do not plan to arrive early. When all cars arrive prior to dismissal times, it creates an unsafe environment on AA.
Where do I get the Cougar Placards that are required for car rider pick up?
Parents can pick-up placards at Open House or at the office. You may request additional cards from the office if necessary for your family situation. You must have the card with you as part of the pick up process. This is strictly for safety measures.
If my student attends Boys and Girls Club (BGC)
BGC members will be escorted to Cougar Cafe where BGC Staff will provide supervision beginning at 2:50.
When are bus riders dismissed?
At approx. 2:45 p.m., the bus riders will be dismissed from class. Buses will leave Callaway Hills at approximately 2:52 each day.
Can I get my child off the bus during the loading/dismissal process?
Not unless it is an extreme case. Attempting to retrieve a student off the bus at the last minute is confusing to the child, the bus driver, and often the staff supervising the buses. If you want your child to be a car rider instead of a bus rider, please call the office by 2:00 p.m., and we will let the teacher and student know in advance.
What is the latest time that I can pick my child up after school?
At 2:55 p.m. any “car riders” who have not been picked up on time will be brought to the office, and parents will be contacted to pick them up. It is expected that students will have departed from school grounds by 3:00 p.m. Exceptions to this may be those students involved in Boys and Girls Club or activities under the direct supervision of a sponsor or teacher.
What do I need to know to pick my student up early from school?
When possible, please call to notify the office if you plan to pick your student up early from school. Upon arrival, please have appropriate ID available to share with the office staff. You will also need to sign your child out of school.
