Every year, millions of athletes with disabilities compete in Special Olympic games. The games began in July 1968, by Eunice K. Shriver, who had a sister with special needs, that competed in sports events. She wanted to give others the opportunity to participate. There are 32 different sporting events in Special Olympics. They are basketball, softball, bowling, track and field, soccer, and swimming to name a few. These games give the athletes the opportunity to have fun.
