Stallion Express
April 2021
Our Stallions have worked hard during a school year that has been like no other. We are entering into the Ohio State testing period, which runs from April 12 - May 14. We are excited to showcase the academic skills that our students were able to obtain over this past year, in the midst of a global pandemic.
In order to help our students be successful on this year’s assessment, we have outlined the following tips:
- Appointments: Please make every effort to schedule appointments around the testing schedule.
- Attendance: If your child is going to be absent for any reason on testing day, please call the school office as soon as you know. We ask that you do your best to make sure your child is in attendance for his/her scheduled testing. Please also assist us with ensuring that students arrive at school on time.
- Breakfast: Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast on test day.
- Rest: Please make sure your child gets a full night of sleep the night, before they have to take the assessment.
- Times: Be certain to get your child to school on time, and please do not schedule any appointments that morning. Testing will begin shortly after school has begun to allow all children time to complete the test.
Also always, we appreciate your support.
Go Stallions!

Fit…..for life!!!
Fitness that begins in childhood is a lifelong investment. The regular habit of exercise is important to develop during this stage to prevent obesity. Kids should learn to develop exercise as a lifelong habit. Studies have shown that children who participate in fitness activities continue to stay active throughout their lives. In addition, regular physical activity helps your child to play and meet challenges, and it's perfect for children of all ages.
Part of committing your child to fitness is limiting your own excessive computer or television time, as well as, getting regular exercise on your own and with your children. Regular physical activity has been a challenge over the past year. Especially for the children who normally participate in organized sports. As children return to increased time in face to face classes, it’s time to once again pay attention to how much time children are spending on line and encourage more physical activity.
Moms and dads can show children the importance of physical activity and sports activities by playing along, coaching teams, or simply coming out to support their child's games.
Remember that you are your child's best role model.
Keep moving!

College and Career Virtual Family Night
Join us via Zoom or Facebook Live (partnerstoledo) for an evening of hands-on family fun through our College & Career Ready, Set, Go program. This event will focus on careers in environmental science and sustainability and will be hosted by Adam Cassi, director of Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful and Aaron Leow, an environmental engineer with Kroger Company.
When you register, we will mail your family a kit of hands-on supplies to help you learn how to fold sustainability practices into everyday hobbies, chores, and even social occasions! And we’ll take you through some fun experiments that give you a taste of a day in the life of an environmental scientist, an engineer and other careers in the field of sustainability. There is no cost for the event or the materials. The link to the registration is https://conta.cc/3niZfRh
Each family who registers will be placed into a drawing for $50 in gift cards.

NEW Community Flyer Page on District Website
We are excited to announce that we have a new home for community flyers on the district's website! They can now be found by clicking the link below, or by going to the district website and clicking on District > Community Partners > Community Flyers.
https://www.wls4kids.org/CommunityFlyers.aspx
This link will be used in place of sending community flyers (YMCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church trunk-or-treats, etc.) home in student's book bags. Any approved WLS flyers will still be sent home with students (anything directly related to or sponsored by WLS), but any community flyers will now be placed on the website instead.
The approval process will remain the same. If you are a group or organization you may email Melissa Cogar, secretary to Brian Davis, Assistant Superintendent, a PDF copy of your flyer. Once approved, she will contact you to let you know it's been approved and that it has been posted on the website.
