Principal/Executive Director's Message
Welcome to March!
Our students and staff have been working hard this school year and it is evident in all the learning and student growth we are seeing during our middle of the year data studies! Great job students, and great job parents for your commitment to their education.
We have lots of things coming up this month including:
- School Spanish Spelling Bee
- State Testing in reading, math (3rd-8th grades) & science (5th & 8th grades)
- Spanish Proficiency Testing
- PTA Sponsored Reading Madness
- March Open House ("Bring a Friend")
- Annual NMPED Charter School Division audit and school visit
We are so grateful to the many people who make all these things happen! We are also very proud of our Middle School Student Ambassadors in their work around the school and taking their leadership roles so very seriously! Thank you Mrs. Dares-Rodriguez and Mrs. Wilburn for leading our Ambassadors in all this work! I'm so happy to see the vision of our Middle School Ambassadors being realized and coming to fruition!
Some of our work right now is preparing for the 2023-2024 school year. An area where we need support from families is our student recruitment efforts for our 2023-2024 school year and spreading the word of who we are at SABE. While we have seen growth in our student enrollment, even during a pandemic, we know that our classrooms are not at capacity and because our budget is determined by student enrollment, we want to continue funding our internal programs and support of our teachers and students and with a healthy budget, we can do just that. Additionally, with our school lease expiring soon, we have been working on the planning and determining all the steps to build SABE's forever home! This is a huge step for us and we are excited!

Our 18 middle school ambassadors have been working hard.
A team is creating and working on our 2022-2023 yearbooks. This includes a team that is taking photos around the school. Thank you to our parent volunteer, Mrs. Guerrero, for helping us with this work. We are also working with all classes on a yearbook cover competition. The winning classroom's artwork with be our SABE 2022-2023 yearbook cover!
Our February Kindness month wrapped up. We are working to see how much we earned during this sale! More to come! The Kindness Grams will be given out soon. There were some issues with the vendor that has delayed the shipping.
We are all excited for the field trip to the Roundhouse this week and also looking forward to the middle school field trips to present what we are learning in music to the Neighborhood in Rio Rancho Life Plan Community and the Meadowlark Senior Center. Thank you to Mrs. Farrell for setting this up for us and the opportunity to give back and play for an audience.
On Saturday, March 11th, we hope you can join us at the SABE Open House from 11:00am-2:00pm. There will be food trucks and we are hoping you will bring a friend! This is a great way to help us help SABE in our efforts in recruiting new students to help our school continue to grow!

Our Spelling Bee champion, Sophie, has had a long road to get to where she is today! First, she and Amari Robinson won our school's Spelling Bee and moved on to the Sandoval County Competition where they competed with local districts around us. Both students represented SABE very well! Sophie finished in the top 3, and moved on to take an online test, just this week, to qualify for the New Mexico state competition. She took the test on February 28, and got 15 out of 25 words correct. Unfortunately, there were 8 students that had the same score. On March 1, Sophie took another online test to break the tie and...now she has qualified to participate in the New Mexico State Spelling Bee on Saturday, April 1! Congratulations Sophie! Best of luck to you!

These class top spellers will go on to the School Spanish Spelling Bee in Tuesday, March 14th. The spelling bee will be transmitted live. More information will be sent out in next week's Monday Memo.

SABE will be hosting an Open House event for new and prospective students on Saturday, March 11th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The theme of the day will be "Bring a Friend". We ask that current families invite a friend so they can see for themselves what a great school we have at SABE.
Our Student Ambassadors will be giving tours of our wonderful school. In addition, our after school and extracurricular clubs will have an information table for interested families.
We want to give interested families the opportunity to visit the school before the lottery opens on March 13th.
More information will be shared as the day gets closer.

- Monday, March 13th, 2023: Lottery Enrollment Window Opens for New Students & Commitment to Reenroll forms will open, scan the QR code or call and ask the front office for a printed form.
- Monday, March 27, 2023: RETURNING, SIBLING & STAFF ENROLLMENT FORMS DUE. These will be distributed to our SABE familia very soon.
- Wednesday, May 10th, 2023: Last Day to Submit your Lottery Enrollment form for NEW STUDENTS for the 2022-2023 school year
- Thursday, May 11th, 2023: Lottery held via Zoom.
