From the PrinciPAL
Dear Caregivers, Families, and Friends,
This week, all classes celebrated International Dot Day in the library! This celebration stems from Peter H. Reynold's beautiful book The Dot and is meant to encourage readers to take risks with creativity. In the library this week, students read the book, explored the map of all the countries celebrating around the world, and then created dot art that will be used for a school-wide mural in the library. Some of us wore clothing with dots or circles, and students made their own creative marks.
Students from Colegio Montessori School in Salamanca, Spain visited us on Dot Day. They are participating in an exchange with South Burlington High School students. They will stay in the United States for about three weeks, and in February, SBHS students will travel to Salamanca, Spain to experience family life, the school experience, and Spanish culture. On Thursday, our visitors toured RMCS and interacted with students in class. They got creative with Dot Day activities and shared their love of language with RMCS students. Did your student learn new Spanish words at school this week? I hope so!
Let's also welcome SBHS students Alonzo and Alece, who are volunteers for recess duty. They bring excitement to the 4th and 2nd grade recesses. Thanks to our high school volunteers. We are still in need of volunteers for recess and lunch supervision. If you can help, please let us know.
In my first few weeks of being an elementary principal, I've learned a great deal about the importance of a safe and efficient drop off and pick up process. Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve. Please remember that drop off begins at 7:50. We do not have supervision for students who are dropped off earlier than that time. We appreciate your help!
I've included a link to the Kids Book Read Aloud, The Dot, for you to enjoy at home. Have a wonderful weekend, and you'll hear from me again next week.
Sincerely,
Lissa McDonald

ILLNESS
We are seeing lots of respiratory illness in our health room! If your child is sick, please keep them at home. If your child's nose is congested/dripping constantly or they have a concerning cough, please keep them at home to rest. Fever? Before returning to school, the fever must be gone (under 100.4) for at least 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medicine).

Per the Vermont Department of Health (VDH), Omicron-specific COVID-19 boosters are now available in Vermont. The updated booster is for people 12 and older who have completed their primary COVID-19 vaccine series and received their last booster or additional dose at least two months ago.
CDC also recommends:
COVID-19 primary series vaccines for everyone ages 6 months and older.
COVID-19 boosters for everyone ages 5 years and older, if eligible.
People who are moderately or severely immunocompromised follow specific recommendations for COVID-19 vaccines, including boosters.
