St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 6 | 24 AUGUST 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,
We are fast winding down to the end of the term. Our students are currently busily
involved in the Performing Arts Festival and are also preparing for the Athletics carnival in
Week 9.
Our Choir were the standout performers yesterday with their vocal presentation. Their
singing was exceptional and a credit to the school and Mrs McDonald.
The Book Week Parade was an outstanding success and my understanding that
Mr Yock (who loves being on the microphone) was great as the MC. Thank you
to our students and staff for their character participation and costumes.
Please note the following new guidelines from CEWA, regarding student medication
during school time:
-The School must only administer medication or allow self-medication necessary for a student to safely participate in their educational programme at school or elsewhere, or in an emergency.
-The School must not administer medication or allow self-medication if the student can safely participate in their educational programme by administration of medication occurring outside of school hours, or by returning the student to the care of the parent.
-The School must have written instructions from a parent before administering medication.
-The School must nominate staff to administer medication in accordance with this Executive Directive from CEWA.
-The School must administer medication:
-as prescribed in writing by a registered medical practitioner;
-from its original container, bearing the original label with the name of the student to whom the medication is to be administered;
-before the expiry or use-by date;
-and in accordance with any instructions attached to the medication, or any written instructions provided by a registered medical practitioner.
-The staff member administering medication must confirm the following with another staff member present immediately beforehand:
- the dosage of the medication to be administered
- and the identity of the student to whom the medication is to be administered.
The Principal and staff must monitor a student for any adverse reaction to the administration of medication.
