Eagles' News Brief:
10.25.2020- Eagles' News Brief
Greetings Eagle Families!
I hope this message finds you all safe, well, and eagerly anticipating the start of a brand new week!
Thank you so much for joining us for Pick-Up Day on Friday! It was wonderful to see so many families! If you didn’t make it Friday, and your student is not in Cohort 1, please come by the school any day during school hours, to pick up your child’s materials.
As a reminder, ONLY students in grades PreK - 3 assigned to Cohort 1 will attend school in-person this week. Our K-3 Cohort 1 teachers are Ms. Brown, Ms. Futrell, Ms. Vogt, and Ms. Colalillo. All other students will continue learning virtually this week.
ALL students, whether they are learning at school or virtually, will have a Remote Learning Day (https://www.wcpss.net/Page/45993) this Wednesday, October 28. This means students MUST complete the assignments posted in Google Classroom to be marked present for the day. Students will only have live sessions on Wednesday if a teacher requests to meet with them. Next Tuesday, November 3, is a Teacher Work Day. View our Cohort and Virtual Academy Calendars via https://bit.ly/31GQ9pp.
Our instructional calendars have been updated. Please familiarize yourself with the calendar for your child's cohort. Students will generally have live or in-person classes four days per week. There is typically a Remote Learning Day, Teacher Work Day, or Holiday scheduled one day per week. October 28 has been added as a Remote Learning Day for all students.

As we prepare to phase our first small groups of students into in-person learning, I want to remind everyone of a few things that will be different this year.
First, all students are expected to show respect for themselves and others by practicing the 3 Ws.
Wear a Face Covering.
Wait 6 feet away from others.
Wash hands often.
Please be sure to send or bring your student to school wearing a comfortable and properly fitted face covering. This is required. Please also be sure your student has a labeled personal water bottle that will not spill easily and that the student can operate independently as well as a labeled towel. (clean and replace daily)
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during arrival and dismissal. Students MUST remain in their vehicle and be screened by a staff member each morning. Students who do not pass the health screening will not be allowed to stay at school. Please help us keep everyone safe by keeping your student home when they are sick. All students will be screened every day. View this carpool procedures video created by our Vandora Staff members. (https://youtu.be/zIpBVKkFaFQ)
Please remember to return the signature page of the Student Accountability and Required Health Protocols Signature Page on your student’s first day of in-person learning. (https://www.wcpss.net/studentaccountability)
Although parents will not be able to walk students to class this year, we will have staff members ready and waiting to welcome students who have passed the Health Screening into the building! Our staff will make sure all students get to their teacher’s classroom. Younger students will be escorted to class in small groups. Kindergarten and first grade parents: Please be sure to put one of your student’s name labels and afternoon transportation labels on their shirt every morning for the first few weeks of school. Please also be sure the bus or carpool tag we place on your child’s backpack remains attached all year.
Parent sign in / out for late arrivals and early dismissals will happen outside of our main entrance. Students may not be checked out after 2:30pm. Students who are sick, will be dismissed from our secondary entrance. This is the entrance by the red bench in our carpool loop. Only essential visitors will be allowed inside our building at this time. Parent meetings will continue to be virtual.
If your child takes medication during the day, we MUST have a completed 1702 form on file before we can accept or administer any medication. Additionally, Immunization Records and Health Assessments for new students are due by Friday, October 30. Please send these documents to Ms. Cattano via email to email@example.com or fax them to 919-704-2063 Attention: Tracy Cattano.
Inside our building, students will be spaced 6 feet apart whenever possible. Students will face the same direction, looking toward the teacher, and they will not share materials. Hand sanitizer stations are located in every classroom and in our hallways. Students will wash their hands multiple times a day. (during arrival, before meals, before and after recess, after using the restroom, etc…)
Breakfast and lunch are free for all students this year. However, we still encourage families to apply for Meal Benefits to support our school through Title I Funding. Families may also qualify for the Pandemic Electronic Benefits Program. (Title I Funding supplements our school budget and is used to purchase additional staff as well as items like Chromebooks, After-school Tutoring, classroom books and resources, teacher training, family engagement materials and more.) https://www.wcpss.net/domain/17669
Specials will be held outside or in homeroom classrooms. Library books will be delivered to classrooms or placed on a table outside of our main entrance for parent pick-up. We are going to do our best to provide technology for our younger students. However, 4th and 5th graders should bring their WCPSS Chromebook to school every day. Students using personal computers may bring their devices to school as well. (See our BYOD Consent Form.) Students will continue to have 30 minutes of recess per day. (https://www.wcpss.net/cms/lib/NC01911451/Centricity/Domain/13427/BYOD%20FORM%20ENGLISH.pdf)
Like arrival, please be patient with us during dismissal. Rather than assembling students in the gym like we have in the past, students will be escorted to the bus and carpool areas from their classrooms this year. Bus students will be loaded first. The YMCA will host an after-school program on our campus. (https://www.ymcatriangle.org/programs/school-programs)
Teachers, custodians, and school staff will clean high touch points throughout the day and our cleaning crew will deep clean every night.
Thank you so much for your support. If you missed our parent meeting last week, I encourage you to view our return to campus guide at https://bit.ly/vsereopens.
It's Time to Drop off Medication!
If your student needs to take medication during the school day, we encourage you to visit the school to drop the medication off, prior to your student's first day of in-person learning.
When you come, please bring a copy of the 1702 form from your child's doctor along with their medication.
Only one parent will be allowed to enter the school after completing a health screening. Please do not bring children with you. Only one parent will be allowed into the office at a time.
Please contact Ms. Jones (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have any questions.
Immunization & Health Assessment Reminder for New Families:
Parents: This is just a reminder that your child's completed Immunization records and NC Health Assessments are due by October 30, 2020. NC law G.S. 130-A-155(a) requires proof of immunizations and North Carolina Health Assessment for all students, whether they are enrolled in virtual learning or in-person. Please email completed immunization records and Health Assessments to Ms. Cattano at email@example.com or fax them to 919-704-2063 Attention: Tracy Cattano
