“One must maintain a little bit of summer, even in the middle of winter.”
– Henry David Thoreau
Today was such a beautiful day. I hope you got some time to head out and enjoy it! This quote was shared with me recently, and it just made me smile today as I was looking out the window and thinking about how before we know it these beautiful days will few and far between. With that in mind, I'm going to head home to see my family and make one last summer memory to sustain me through the winter. I hope you are able to do the same.
It was so nice to connect with so many of you this week as you began coming in to set up your classrooms. Lindsay and I cannot wait to welcome you back on Monday.
One piece of news I must share is that our staffing allocation did not change today. We will be in a holding pattern for another week. Thank you for your patience as the hardworking folks at district office work through this tricky problem. I appreciate the teamwork that has been displayed by everyone in this stressful time.
I want to apologize that the weekly bulletin is not updated. I will turn that over to Yvett next week, but I didn't have the heart to add to her workload as she was ramping up at RHK8. We'll get that out next week so you will know what is coming up! Thanks for your patience.
Warm regards,
Jennifer

Thank you also to Kelly and Juliet for subbing for me and Lindsay while we were at a training on Thursday. I'm so thankful to be part of this team.

Health Adoption
Below is a link to the "Comprehensive Health Education Guide for Elementary School" that was shared with administrators. It contains lots of helpful information about the health adoption as well as links to important resources. Additionally, there will be three hours of training during preservice week for K-5 teachers regarding our next steps with the newly adopted standards and curriculum. Thank you to our very own Mary Towell for helping to plan and deliver this important PD.
“... children’s cognitive capacities are still under development, including executive functions responsible for the filtering of irrelevant information for a given task...” A teacher may have little difficulty ignoring a wall full of decorations, but young students may find themselves unable to look away and focus on a lesson."
They go on to say that classrooms should look lively, but leave 20-50% of wall space bare. Just some interesting things to consider as we're setting up classrooms next week. If you'd like to learn more, here are some links to additional articles.
