Did you realize that penguins eat 2 pounds of food per day? There diet is krill, fish, and squid. Penguins catch food with there beaks. In Antarctica they eat more of squid and krill because it is easy to catch. If you look close at a penguins bill you’ll notice that they will have a hook at the end. Penguins have a special gland in their bodies that takes the salt water.

Have you ever thought about how many species of penguins there are? Well there are 17 species of penguins. Although these penguins look alike each penguin are different in away. Some of the most popular penguins are the emperor, the king, the gentoo, and the rockhopper. All of these penguins live in the southern hemisphere and many live in the north pole where it is low temperature.

Did you know that most penguins lay 2 eggs each year? Usually the eggs hatch 35 days later. Both parents have to take turns keeping the eggs warm. The penguins parents sit on the eggs to keep the eggs warm. In most mammals , the egg is just a cell called an ovum inside the mother’s body. Most other female animals lay eggs, or release them outside their body to develop. An adult penguin can reproduce only when they are between 3 and 8 years old.
