What's Happening at the "D"
May 22, 2020
A note from the Principal...
Hello DeKeyser families,
Thank you for your unwavering support! I know it can be a challenge completing the learning at home, this is certainly not ideal. Everyone has learned through this process and speaking for myself, I can hardly believe we are at the point that we are in this school year. I try to keep looking forward at what hurdles may be in the future with a level head, knowing everything will work out. As the district develops plans for the Fall, it will be communicated through official UCS messaging as well as from me. Because there is so much up in the air, parent input forms will not be available this Spring.
Utica Community Schools has set the student calendar for the 2020/2021 school year, it is attached below. Please note, school begins before Labor Day this Fall.
Also in this newsletter is information about upcoming Kindergarten Registration. If you are enrolling a new student this coming fall, please see the blurb below.
There have been questions about how students are going to get their belongings as well as how families will return materials that belong to the school that may be at students' homes. I can assure you that safety is number one! The district is reviewing the final details on the plan and it will be communicated when it is complete. This is quite an undertaking, so thank you in advance for your understanding with this!
I have enjoyed having "lunch" with students in Grades K-5! Seeing the smiling faces brightens my day and reminds me why we educators have chosen this profession! Next week I get to see the 6th graders and I can't wait to see the "leaders" of our school and the ones that our younger students look up to! It's a great time to be a dolphin!
With appreciation,
Mary Beth Merlo
