Student Learning Around BSE

November is flying by, and it is hard to believe there are only 7 school days until Thanksgiving Break. Student engagement and achievement continue to be on the rise week by week.

Currently, Kindergarteners through fourth graders are immersed into nonfiction reading and at many grade levels nonfiction writing as well. For instance, in first grade students are writing about themselves while third graders are taking a topic they know very well and writing a book about that topic. It might be about basketball, frogs, a specific holiday, a game, etc. In the meantime, second graders decided to be like the author of the popular Who Would Win series, Jerry Pallotta, and collaborated in study teams to learn and write their own versions of Who Would Win. Much went into this process including: reading, researching, taking notes through sketchnoting, discussing, compromising, and so much more. Check out below some examples of our second graders and their finished products currently on display for others to read, learn from, and enjoy because that is what writers do. Writers write with a purpose.

Students and Teachers Learning

While students were engaged with e-learning activities on Friday, teachers spent the entire day together in professional development learning with each and learning from each other. The entire day's focus was about strengthening core instruction and supporting the needs of our students for them to be successful. Check out some highlights of the day.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Conferences are winding down as we move into this final full week before Thanksgiving. If you have not set up a conference with your child's teacher, please reach out. The teacher will be reaching out to you as well. We believe the communication and connection from home to school is an important piece to a child's academic success.

Congratulations to BSE's Very Own HSEF Grant Winner!

Mrs. Grampp and her fellow kindergarten colleagues were recently awarded a grant from the Hamilton Southeastern Education Foundation, HSEF. The team of teachers reflected on the needs of their students and came up with a pan to support them. They applied for a grant for resources and tools to support their growing readers and writers. We are proud of Mrs. Grampp and her team and look forward to the next steps. Congratulations!
