Van Brunt Elementary

February 2016

Dear Van Brunt Families,

It's hard to believe we are starting second semester! It has been a great first half of our school year and I am looking forward to a wonderful second half. Students are excited to share the great books they are reading and interesting things they are learning in class.

In the month of January, students completed MAP testing in reading and math. Most students made great progress in their learning. Please take a moment and ask your child if they met their learning goal. This is also a great opportunity to ask your child about their goals for the remainder of the year and their plan for accomplishing these goals. We know that approaching learning with a growth mindset helps students work hard every day.

The Van Brunt staff appreciates the continued support of our wonderful families. The open communication and partnerships are so valuable to your child's education. As always, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

Lisa Sawyer

Congratulations to our January POPS Winners!!

Our January POPS winners were recognized for showing FRIENDLINESS. This trait was observed in all areas of our school. With many new students joining our Van Brunt family, students and staff took every opportunity to welcome our new friends. It's heartwarming to walk down the hall and see the many ways our students and staff demonstrate friendliness every day.

Thank you to our wonderful band members for leading us in celebrating our January birthdays! We appreciate your time and talent.

Drop Off/Pick Up

The Van Brunt staff has been working hard to put things in place to make drop off and pick up as safe as possible. We have spoken with students about being safe at dismissal and have added extra supervision near the parking lot. There are also things parents can do to help make this time safer. We are asking for a few things to help keep our children safe:
  • In the morning, please pull over when you let your children out of the car. Do not drop off in the middle of the road.
  • Please use the crosswalk. Do not allow students to run across the street.
  • Use caution when in the parking lot.

Thank you!

Great Learning at Van Brunt!

The students and staff have been working very hard! Teachers have planned wonderful learning opportunities for our students and our students are learning so much!
