In Columbia, as soon as December hits, they have to have their lights, a tree, red and white candles, and a nativity scene.
Church
For most of Columbia, they celebrate Catholic traditions. The novena is a very critical part of Christmas for them. On December 16th, and each night until the 24th. They all gather together with their families and pray a novena, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
no Santa?
Children in Columbia write a letter to the baby Jesus, instead of Santa. The letter usually goes into the nativity, where it mysteriously disappears.
other traditions
many people in Columbia light fireworks during the holiday, even though they are prohibited. Many of the children have sparklers they play with.
