Thank you to those of you who supported PTO’s Family Fun Night! A special shout out goes to Cindy Evans and Katrina Senesac, our co-chairs for the event. I would also like to thank Tricia Tonagel-Bender who coordinated our silent auction. Due to the hard work of these ladies and countless other volunteers, Family Fun Night was a PAWsome success! The amount raised will be revealed at our next PTO meeting, May 10, at 3:45pm. We hope to see you there!

It is with great sadness that I share with you the passing of Sage Mikels, a kindergarten student in Mrs. Wireman’s class. Her obituary stated, “Sage possessed a love of life although she had many physical problems. She was strong and such a fighter. She always made everyone smile.” Sage’s presence is greatly missed by all who knew her.

We did it!!!

All of the ISTEP tests are boxed and ready to be sent away for scoring. We hope to have results for you when students return in the fall. Thank you for your part in getting your child to school and ready to test!

Last week we received preliminary results for IREAD 3, the exam which was given to all third grade students March 14. The parents of each student who did not pass have been notified.

We hope to have the official results to parents on May 13. We are very proud of the effort put forth by our students and teachers for this test and all of the required standardized tests!

Camp WACK: The week of May 9th, Student Council will be hosting a whole week of fun! Wear a hat, wacky hair or the brightest neon throughout the week....bring a donation to support Camp WACK's 10th anniversary! Student Council will be sending home flyers explaining our fun filled and wacky week...all for a great cause! To check out more information about Camp WACK you can go to the website at campwack.org. You can also volunteer!

Personal Safety: I have been presenting to classes on personal safety. Even though children might be small....they can be empowered and mighty to help keep safe! Giving permission to your child is so important. We often think our child would do what they need to in order to remain safe in a potentially unsafe situation but the reality is that most children don't respond because they don't feel empowered or that they have permission. RadKIDS (radKIDS.org) is a wonderful thing to offer your child. Check out West Lafayette Police Departments website regarding a summer camp for radKIDS. Give this very important skill to your child! It will change lives!

May 2-6, 2016 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. We are grateful for all of our teachers and staff members.

What an honor it would be for a teacher to be nominated for a Golden Apple Award.

It’s time to nominate those outstanding teachers for the Golden Apple Teaching Award sponsored by Greater Lafayette Commerce. This year’s cycle is elementary as defined by K-6. Nominations are always accepted online, however, for consideration in this year’s elementary cycle nominations must be received by May 6, 2016. (Those nominations received after that date are held until that grade level’s next alternating cycle.)

Nominations may be submitted by anyone: parents, faculty, administrators, present or past students, etc.

It takes a short five minutes to nominate an outstanding teacher. Submission form is located on the Greater Lafayette Commerce website or click this link: http://www.greaterlafayettecommerce.com/2015-golden-apple.
