Because of Winn-Dixie Showcase

Our Because of Winn-Dixie Showcase last Thursday, September 3rd was a successful! Students did an EXCELLENT job showing their creativity and understanding of the novel through dioramas, games, maps, a picture album, and a comic book! Team Krapf also enjoyed watching the movie in class on August 28th and comparing it to the book. We enjoyed Gloria Dump's punch, Otis' pickles, and popcorn during the movie. If your children haven't already told you who Gloria Dump and Otis are --- ask them! Learning about character traits was the focus of our Because of Winn-Dixie Study. Here is a quick video of the students' projects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4HvdMrapxE

Fact Fluency, Multiplying by 2s & 10s, Rounding, Adding & Subtracting 3-Digit Numbers

The websites listed below are GREAT practice sites for students. Students know their log-on information, and can practice math on these sites at any time. From time to time students will be given Reward Tickets for going "above & beyond" and doing extra math practice at home. I look at reports regularly to review student progress.

Literacy (Reading, Writing, Grammar)

Our main focus areas are:

  • determining the main idea of text;
  • demonstrating understanding of text;
  • using dialogue in narrative writing(using quotaion marks);
  • capitalizing correct words in sentences (common & proper nouns);
  • using ending marks in sentences;
  • and spelling sight words correctly in everyday writing.

We started Word Work this week. Work Work cycles will last two weeks and most work "hands-on" work will be done in class. Students can practice spelling their words at home on www.SpellingCity.com/nkrapf/. Spelling City allows students to play games using their spelling words and take quizzes. Each list will be posted on the website by the group's name (Red, Blue, Green). Word Work words & activity menus will be kept in students' homework folders so they have access to them at all times. We will begin reading aloud Charlotte's Web next week.
