Island School PTA Newsletter
Start of the school year 2015 2016
Message from the Co-chairs
A very warm welcome to all the Island School families as we embark on this exciting New Year together! We had the opportunity to meet many of you along with your children during the uniform & bookshop openings as well as the Welcome Events organized by the School in partnership with the PTA.
August is always a hectic time for us with the opening of the ISPTA shops & issuance of bus passes as we get ready for the wonderful Year 7 students to join the Island School Community. Our parent volunteers have been extremely generous with their time & have helped us once again in making sure that we could warmly serve all those who came. We wish to thank Smita Venus, Jane Watson, Mindy Moser, Boon Chan, Sandy Yamaguchi, Swapna Kotkar, Mavis Lee, Aparna Bubna, Ruby Bhatia, Alefiyah Ebrahim, Valerie Pijpers, Andy Nye, Molinna Hatterer, Yulia Cheriakov and Manju Anand for all their hard work and support.
Preparations are underway for the Annual General Meeting being held on Monday, September 21st to elect the new PTA committee. We are extremely fortunate to have Paul Schulte from Schulte Research speaking at the event on ‘How to prepare young adults when we don’t know what the future workplace looks like.’ It promises to be an interesting & informative evening.
Kindly join us for cocktails in the School Hall starting at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
We wish the Year 13’s & their parents the very best as they start the process of applications to University. These are extremely busy times for our students as they navigate the process along with meeting academic deadlines. They need all the support they can get!

It's a good way to be in touch with other parents from your child’s year group and address queries, advices, ideas and help in settling down and being part of the Island School community.
We have 13 WhatsApp groups managed by Parent Representatives of each year group, who help to connect the parent community. These groups are especially useful for parents who are new to Island School.

A big thank you to all volunteers who helped during the busy shop opening period. We always need volunteers on a daily basis to help out in the bookshop.
Please notify Sandra or Christine in the PTA office if you are available to help out for a few hours a month, it doesn’t have to be a regular commitment, it can simply be when you’re free. Fathers are especially welcome.
