Lifecycle of a star
by Quinn Miller
Lifecycle of stars are similar to a human lifecycle
lifecycle of stars are similar to a lifecycle of a human. Stars and humans have a lifecycle, both stars and humans have a birth and a death.
protostar
protostars form inside a nebula. A nebula is gas and dust between stars. The gas that makes up a nebula is 97% hydrogen and 3% helium. To form a protostar it must be an equilibrium, a star has reached equilibrium when gravity pulling atoms to the center of a star and gas pushing heat and light away from the center.
Main sequence
when a star is in the the main sequence stage it is going through nuclear fusion of hydrogen to form helium. The star primarily burns hydrogen.
Red giant
A red giant happens when the star starts burning to hot so helium then fuses into carbon. The energy from the helium fusing causes the star to expand to be many times bigger.
death of a star
When a star runs out of fuel it dies. A low mass star will shrink into a white dwarf. A medium mass star will shrink into a neutron star. A massive star will explode into a supernova.
applications
Spectroscopy measures the light emitted from a star. The light can tell us what elements are in the star. The elements created are from the burning of the hydrogen and helium in the star.
