What's Happening At Gratz Brown This Month??
Parent Teacher Conferences:
The administration, faculty, and staff of the Moberly School District cordially invite all parents to attend our annual spring Parent-Teacher Conferences. Research conducted over the past quarter century has shown convincingly that parent involvement has a critical effect on a child’s learning, attitude about school, and aspirations. When parents and teachers work together, they can make an unbeatable team.
Conferences will be held Tuesday, March 15 from 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm and Thursday, March 17 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Thursday, March 17 will be an early out day. School will not be in session Friday, March 18.
MO Read In Day:
Bookmark Contest
Librarians in our school district are sponsoring a bookmark contest in our schools. This project will be explained and started during your students GBE library time. Included in the email is the bookmark template and directions. This project will be encouraged, but not required of our students.
Book Swap
Thanks to several donations, we have lots of gently used books. We will swap our morning library passes for book swap passes so students can do their swaps during the week of March 9-15. There will also be an opportunity to swap books during library time during the week.
DEAR
Another Drop Everything and Read will be scheduled for Missouri Read-In Day, at 10:00-10:30 on Friday.
Participation in the Renick Spelling Bee:
On April 1st the top three contestants from each grade level will be invited to attend this competition. Letters and permission forms have been given to teachers to send home and turned in to allow your child to participate in the event that they are one of the finalists from GBE. These spell offs have been taking place this last month to get the students in order and time to prepare for the larger competition.
Our top 3 winners of the 3rd grade spelling bee were:
Jaylyn Woods
Luke McCormick
Acacia Harding.
The top three spellers from the 4th grade Spell off:
George Freeman
Gage Windsor
Emily Berneking
We are still waiting to hear on our finalists from 5th Grade. I will send those out to parents as soon as these are solidified.
Talent Show Preparation at GBE!!
As you know, recently the Talent Show Sign-up/Permission forms were sent home. As you can tell already the students are very excited about this event and last year we had kids from ALL classes enter.
1. We will record on March 9th during school.
2. The video of all performers will play during lunch March 21st-24th.
3. Student may bring change in during the lunch viewing week to vote on their favorites.
4. The top 10 who raise the most money will perform at MACC Activity Center on Carnival Night Friday, April 15th.
March Reading Counts Challenge:
March Madness will began last week!
For each RC test your student passes (you can set the minimum # of points a book can be worth), the student will fill out a basketball with his/her name and the book title. Each basketball is an entry into the Wednesday basketball challenge.
The class with the highest points/%points increase in March (per grade level) will be awarded a classroom privilege of their choice.
Hoop it up!
GBE Library and Literature Programs
Students in 4th and 5th grade have a wonderful opportunity to be selected to attend a children’s literature festival at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri on April 15. Early in the school year students learned how they could earn the privilege of attending this festival where they will meet book authors and illustrators. Each year our PTO funds the registration fee for fifty students to attend. You will find more information about this field trip using the following link embedded below. Please take a look to learn more about this amazing opportunity!

Reading Counts Challenge Met by GBE Students!
The Goal was for the students in total to reach 10,000 points. They not only reached, but surpassed this goal! The total reached 14,575 points for our students!
As promised, I had a slumber party with book recommendations from our students this last week on the evening of the 3rd. I have shared the videos with all of the teachers to show the students-- unfortunately I could not get them to attach to my newsletter.
I will attach photos to this newsletter-- taken by my mother who helped drop me off, get me settled and check on me, to make sure I was not afraid. Many of the kids were worried about Mrs. Doss getting scared in the dark! ;0)
