Ms. Troy's Classroom News
September 2015
Welcome to 5th Grade!
I firmly believe that communication is the key to your child's success and to a great parent/teacher relationship. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can e-mail me, call the main office and ask to speak with me or write me a letter in your child's "Homework Notebook". It is my hope that your child's "Homework Notebook" will act as a constant source of communication between home and school. In turn, I will do my part by writing in your child's "Homework Notebook" if necessary. I will also send home monthly newsletters to keep you updated on what is going on inside our classroom.

What's Going on in September
We have had a great start to our year so far! During the first week of school, our class focused on building a positive classroom community by completing activities, such as the "Marshmallow Challenge" and the "Saving Freddy Challenge". The students also discussed ways that they were going to act as responsible and respectful 5th graders each day. Although we will continue to learn the procedures and expectations of the classroom, the students will learn about place value and how to complete different operations that involve decimals. In science, we will start off the year by learning about the solar system. I strongly encourage you to ask your child questions about what they are learning in school each day!
