Summery of the events on 9/11
On September 11, 2001. 4 planes were hijacked in the United States. 2 of the planes were flown into the World Trade Center in New York City. 1 was flown into the Pentagon in Washington DC. And the 4th plane crashed into a Pennsylvania field. The attacks killed almost 3,000 people, including the passengers on all 4 planes. The country was impacted greatly from this event. As a result of the hijackings, airports now have extremely strict policies to ensure that nothing like this can ever happen again. The 2 skyscrapers which the planes crashed into eventually collapsed costing billions of dollars. The stock market also did not open on September 11th and didn't open until the 17th.

Osama Bin Ladin
Osama Bin Ladin was the key person who planned the 9/11 attacks and was hunted down by the US and many other countries, he became the FBI's #1 most wanted person in the world and was killed by US Navy Seals years later.
1968
Summery on 1968
1968 was a big year in American History. There were so many important things that happened during this year. The Vietnam War was going on, Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated as well as Martin Luther King Jr. Nixon was elected president later in the year. The hippie movement was in effect, promoting peace and lots of drugs and sex. The black power movement was started by Malcolm X. And there were also many race riots going on throughout the year in many major us cities.

President Richard Nixon
Nixon was elected president after LBJ announced that he would not be running for president in the next election.
The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was going on during 1968 and there were drafts going on during the time as well. A important event that occurred during the war was the TET Offensive.
Robert F. Kennedy
Robert F. Kennedy was John F. Kennedy's brother, he was also running for president in 1968 before he was assassinated.
Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King was a key civil rights leader for African Americans during 1968, he was beloved and hated by lots across america. He was assassinated in Tennessee outside of his hotel after giving one of his speeches. One of his most known speeches was his "I Have a Dream" speech.
The Mexican/American War 1846-1848
Summery on the Mexican/American War
The Mexican/American War was caused by land disputes between the United States and Mexico. The United States stated that the border between the US and Mexico lied on the Rio Grande River. But Mexico said that the border lied on the Nueces River. Because of this America fought Mexico and won, resulting in an enormous amount of land which now belonged to the US. Because of this war, we now have states like California, New Mexico, Nevada, parts of Colorado and Texas. and Utah.

Zachary Taylor was a major general during the Mexican/American war. He eventually became President of the United States.
Most important Turning Point?
I believe that the Mexican/American War was the most important Turning Point that we studied. Mainly because if we didn't go to war with Mexico then we wouldn't have obtained many states that we now have California, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, and parts of Colorado and Texas.
