The Kinds Of Tides
Proxigean Spring Tides
This kind of tide occurs once every 18 years. For these tides to occur, the moon must be very close to Earth and has to align with the sun in its new moon phase. Proxigean spring tides are extremely dangerous and can cause floods with its gargantuan size. ( These kinds of tides and spring tides have nothing to do with the season spring.)
Spring Tides
These types of tides are the highest waters that correspond to the lowest waters. They occur a day or more after the full moon phase.(Remember, these tides don't have anything to do with the season spring.)
Neap Tides
Neap tides have the least tidal range. They occur shortly after the moon is in its 1st and 3rd quarter phases.
Semi-diurnal Tides
These types of tides have two episode of high equal water and another two of equal low water. These tides happen when the moon is directly over the equator.
Mixed Tides
Mixed tides also have two episodes of high water and low water. They occur when the moon is really far north or really far south from the equator.
Diurnal Tides
These kinds of tides have one episode of high water and low water in the other episode everyday. They occur when the moon is really far from the equator. It would be good if you had a tide book with you to see if any of these types of tides will occur, so you'd know if the day is good for surfing or not. You don't want to ruin a fun day on the beach, do you?
