SPES FAMILY DAY RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER
SPES FAMILY DAY will be held on Saturday, November 12th. The day will begin with a Prayer Service in Church at 9:30 a.m. followed by the opening of all games, fun jumps and activities at 10 a.m. Our 3rd graders will be conducting their ANNUAL THANKSGIVING CANNED GOOD DRIVE that day also. Cost for the day is $15 per person (children under 4 years of age and not yet enrolled at SPES get in FREE). Yes, you read it right....only $15 and you get to participate in all of the Wacky Olympic games, the cake walk, have your face painted, play on all of the fun jumps, complete a take-home art project AND get a TWINS BURGER bagged lunch and cold drink for only $15 ... and that's all for you too, Mom and Dad! Order your $15 wrist bands by clicking on the link found at the bottom of this week's newsletter (http://www.stpiuselementary.org/pto/spes-family-day.cfm). NOTE: Order your wristband before Tuesday, November 8th because after that point wristbands will only be available on the day of the event and cost will be $20.
To have an event such as SPES FAMILY DAY it takes everyone chipping in to help so watch for an email from your homeroom mom on WEDNESDAY that outlines the areas in which you can help make SPES FAMILY DAY a great day! All we ask is that, if you plan on attending on November 12th that you consider donating an hour of your time to work a game or the cake walk, supervise a fun jump, do some face painting (don't worry...we have stencils so you don't have to be artistic), help make a memory at the art project station or work the concession stand. Any areas without enough volunteers will have to be eliminated and we sure do not want to do that!

THE LEADER IN ME
This year's SPES FAMILY DAY is going to have a bit of a different look from past fall festivals and fairs held at SPES. We have, and will be, relying heavily on our students in planning and execution. Our eighth graders guided our selection of fun jumps. Seventh graders will assist in the planning of the prayer service to start the day. You will see our third graders outside of church before the prayer service, and at the doors of the breezeway throughout the day, collecting canned goods and non-perishables for their annual Thanksgiving Canned Good Drive. A new component of our fall fair features Wacky Olympic-type games in the gym which a committee of fifth graders have selected and, last but not least, major preparation prior to SPES FAMILY DAY is being handled by our sixth graders. We see the beauty of integrating the "SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE" into our lives and the lives of our students. SPES FAMILY DAY is going to be a demonstration of our students' acquired leadership skills! We'll see you there...
