2019-2020 Class Lists
We are in the beginning stages of creating class lists for the 2019-2020 school year. While we do not accept teacher requests, we do seek input to help us match the right learning style and attributes to make a great fit for next year. If there is any information you would like for us to consider when building the lists, now is the time to share your thoughts.
I will accept input until April 22nd at 3 p.m.
You may send me an email at eschill@smcsc.com to share your thoughts. Please put 2019-2020 class lists in the subject line.
Have a great week!

School Counselor's Corner
Parents,
This week our Project Care focus was on being a good problem solver to resolve conflicts between friends. Conflicts do happen between friends. It should not be a thing that weakens friendships but something that actually makes them stronger. Here are some ways for your student to be a problem solver when having a conflict with a friend.
They should:
- Acknowledge that they are having a conflict by politely telling their friend that their friendship is too important to lose because of an unsettled conflict between them.
- Tell their friend that they want to listen to their side of the story and find out what the problem is so they can work on it together.
- Use the STEP problem-solving process to take turns and think of ways to solve the problem. The STEP process is, SAY THE PROBLEM (Without Blame by focus on “I”), THINK ABOUT SOLUTIONS, EXPLORE CONSEQUENCES, and PICK THE BEST SOLUTION.
- Listen to each other completely and try not to interrupt each other as this may cause more hard feelings.
- If strong feelings of hurt or anger are getting in the way of either of them listening or talking with each other respectfully, they should take time to cool down and then try to resume their talking at a later time. Sometimes they may need to give it an hour, day, or a few days.
- Mutually agree that the problem must have a solution that works for both of them. If one of them gives in and solutions are not heard, it could cause hurt feelings that are held on to and the conflict may start over.
Remember, students are going to have conflicts between friends. Please follow-up at home with this message by discussing the following question with your student: What would you say or do when a friend who never likes to talk out problems just says “forget it” and won’t talk with you for days? Try to lead them through the STEP process. For example, the Say the Problem, “I want to talk about some friendship issues we are having, and my friend doesn’t want to.”
Until next week…….
