Principal's Message

Ravinia Families,

We are excited to welcome students back in person for our hybrid learning model on Monday, February 1! Over the summer we worked hard to create protocols and procedures at Ravinia that would ensure we could exceed the expectations regarding social distancing and safety procedures during these times. Little will change in this regard when we return in February. Click on the button below for more information about returning to school.

As we share in the special edition below, please be mindful to not send extra supplies or materials to school. There is no recess, so snowpants or additional shoes aren't needed at this time. We have provided a list of learning materials to be returned on Monday in the link below - please read carefully!

We are excited to welcome our students and full staff back on Monday! As a reminder, we are not allowing visitors in classrooms or on the grounds during the day at arrival and dismissal.

COVID-19 Saliva Screening ***Student Informed Consent Form***

We are looking forward to welcoming back students and staff to all campuses next week as we pivot from all remote learning back to the hybrid learning model that we started the school year with. To further advance the efforts toward risk mitigation measures, the District has contracted with Safeguard to provide COVID-19 saliva screening to students attending in-person instruction and all interested staff. There is no cost to any family for any testing, this is part of the District 112 COVID-19 emergency funding. We will not be offering this to families and students who are in fully remote learning at this time. Saliva testing materials will be sent home on Thursdays for collection, and are to be returned on Fridays to the school.

CrisisGo Self-Certification for In-Person Hybrid Learning Model

CrisisGo self-certification notices resumed on Thursday, January 28, 2021. If you did not start to receive the notices, please contact the office at 224-765-3700. Remember to complete this form each day before 8:00am.


This year parents will be uploading their child/children's school pictures and we promise it could not be easier! Pictures must be in by February 15th. The 2020/21 yearbook will be a lifelong keepsake to remember this extraordinary year.

STEP 1: Take your child's photo against a plain neutral background (easiest to use your phone!)

STEP 2: Click this link

STEP 3: Input PARENT name, parent email, parent phone number, click "I agree to terms and conditions"

STEP 4: Click the FIRST green button which says "Click here to upload a student portrait due by 2/15"

STEP 5: Follow the prompts to pull your image from your phone or computer photo library and crop the photo per instructions (students head and shoulders should appear in the crop tool box)

STEP 6: Input STUDENTS grade, first name, last name, and teacher (see below)

  • If HYBRID - teacher should be inputted as follows "Teacher last name - AM or PM" (ex. "Derry - PM", OR "March - AM")
  • If REMOTE - teacher should be inputted as "Remote - Grade" (ex. "Remote - 3rd", or "Remote - Kindergarten")

STEP 7: CLICK "upload portrait image" (make sure the portrait image square is not blank) and a "Success!" response message should pop up.

From the Library

iRead will be wrapping up on February 3rd. Thanks for encouraging your children to read and record their minutes for the contest. Reading logs are due by Feb. 5th. Hybrid students submit their reading logs to their classroom teachers. This can be done by sharing your electronic copy or handing in a printed version. Remote students submit their reading logs to Mrs. Lau, their home school librarian. This may be shared electronically or handed in at Ravinia School. We will have a collection basket in the vestibule for your convenience.

2021-22 Kindergarteners - If you have an incoming kindergartener who turns 5 by 09/01/2021,

pre-registration opens on Monday, February 1. Please visit the district website to complete pre-registration so we know your child will be attending next year. Please share with friends and neighbors to help get the word out!

District Lunch Resources

Any family with children 18 or younger is eligible for free meals during this time. You can pick up meals at Oak Terrace between 10:30-1:30 Monday-Friday, or you can sign up to have the meals delivered directly to your home while everyone is remote! There is no registration needed to pick up meals at Oak Terrace. This program is for all our families and is funded regardless of number of students. Your participation does not 'take away' from others being able to participate.

Deliveries of breakfast and lunch will be twice a week, Mondays (2 days worth) and Wednesdays (3 days worth).

  • As new families apply for delivery, they will be added to the route for the following week.
  • When we are back in person, remote families will still be eligible for food deliveries, but hybrid families can still pick up meals at Oak Terrace.

Nurse Communication Reminders: Report ALL Absences

Please inform Nurse Betsy if your child (or someone in your home) tests positive for COVID19, has had close contact with someone who has tested positive, or is sick (including symptoms).

This includes ALL absences - including vacation, appointments, or any other absence. We still need to document these absences during our pivot to remote learning. Ms. Weiss can be reached at: or 224-765-3709.
