Governor's Schools, Boys State, and Girls State Students
Virginia Governor’s Schools provide some of the state’s most able students academically and artistically challenging programs beyond those offered in their home schools. With the support of the Virginia Board of Education and the General Assembly, the Governor’s Schools presently include summer residential, summer regional, and academic-year programs serving more than 7,500 gifted students from all parts of the commonwealth. The following Stone Bridge students were accepted into the 2021 Summer Residential Governor's School:
- For Math, Science, and Technology (MST) – Brett Wilson
- Alternate for Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) – Rachel Emch
The Ashburn Leonard W Kidd American Legion Post 2001 will again sponsor both girls and boys to attend Boys State and Girls State activities this year. The program is quite prestigious but more importantly, allows students to learn and live in an environment that stresses Civic Mindedness/American Citizenship. Attendees learn about our democratic government and actually run their city and state governments. Boys State will be held at Radford University and Girls State will be held at Longwood University.
- For Boys State - Brandon Fobes
- For Girls State - Kyra Campbell and Kyra Padam
Congratulations to all!

Athletics Updates from our Coaches
Girls Soccer
The Varsity & JV Girls Soccer Teams continue to work hard, persevering and collectively improving each week and have had a great start to our spring season! Varsity boasts a winning record beating Woodgrove (twice), Freedom and Potomac Falls while JV triumphed over Potomac Falls, Woodgrove and tied Riverside 0-0 in the first half of our season. We look forward to hosting Riverside and visiting Potomac Falls next week for the last two regular season games. Unfortunately our senior night was cancelled due to inclement weather, however, we plan on celebrating our seniors at our next home game against Riverside on Wednesday 6/3. Stone Bridge will be facing TJ in region quarterfinals on Tuesday 6/8 at 7:15 PM away.
Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team defeated Woodgrove 1-0 year on Monday night to move to 6 wins and 1 loss on the season. The bulldogs have 4 shutouts on the season and will be the 2nd seed for the regional tournament which starts on June 8. The team still has 2 games to go in the season, and are looking forward to finishing the season strong. Come out to our next game, which is also our senior night, on June 2 vs Potomac Falls!
Track
The track team competed very well against Riverside on Thursday evening. Highlights for the women include Jenna Callan breaking the school record in high jump, jumping 5’4. Leading the way for the boys was George Alexander who won the 1600m run and the 800m run, his time in the 1600 is #2 All time at Stone Bridge. Drew Foster won the 100m dash and was 2nd in the 200m dash. Ian Campbell and Nick Gray both finished 2nd in the 400m dash and 800m run respectively with PRs. Jack Krablin won the triple jump and Alex Musselman took 2nd place in the shot put. Our 4x400 relay of Ian Campbell, David Arrington, Mitchell Palmer and Nick Gray took the win to end the meet. Our teams have one more regular season meet next Thursday 6/3 at Rock Ridge before we start the post season with the Regional Championship at Rock Ridge on Monday 6/7!
Baseball
The Stone Bridge Baseball team fell to Potomac Falls 7-6. Senior Zach Mazur and Sophomore Jack Hayes each registered 3 hits in the one run loss. The Bulldogs resume their schedule Tuesday June 1st against rival Briar Woods on the road. Then travel to Riverside for the final regular season game on Friday June 4th.
Softball
On Senior night, SB defeated PF 18-0 behind SR Veronica Kidwell's first HR in a Stone Bridge uniform. All other seniors, Taylor Hafer, Maddie Paugh, and Olivia Smith, also contributed 2 hits each. In total our SRs had a combined 8 RBI.
Girls Lacrosse
Varsity girls lacrosse played Woodgrove away on Tuesday May 25th. JV lost a hard played game, 5-4, Charly Burns made big stops in cage. Varsity defeated Woodgrove 14-4. Goals scored by Avery Moon, Beca Rosales, Lauren Cole, Allyson Ryan, Erica Lawrence and Kate Hornberger. Allison Carolan had 9 saves in goal.
Boys Lacrosse
On Tuesday, Boys Lacrosse took down Woodgrove in a full-team, 15-3 win at home. The boys rode the energy of that win into their game against Freedom just two days later. Though being down by one at halftime, the team's mental toughness earned the boys a thrilling win in the final three seconds of the game. This 11-10 victory adds another win to the three-game streak. Boys Lacrosse will celebrate their Seniors and take on Potomac Falls this upcoming Tuesday.
Stone Bridge Rowing Team ‘Holds the Line’ – and then some
Stone Bridge rowing built on its mid-May success at the Walter Mess regatta on the Occoquan Reservoir on May 22, 2021. Charged with “holding the line” on the team’s initial success, SBHS competed in 8 races against 30 schools and placed in all 8 of them.
The Women's Varsity 4, Men’s Junior Varsity 4, and Women’s Novice 4 boats took 1st place in their races; the Men's and Women’s Novice 8 boats took 2nd place in their races; and the Men's Varsity 4, Junior Varsity 4x, and Junior Varsity 8 took 3rd place in their races. The SB Rowing Team's next event is the Darrell Winslow Regatta at Sandy Run Regional Park on May 29, 2021.
