Hello Glennwood Families!
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this time. I want to thank Nurse Beth who has been working tirelessly- contact tracing, testing, taking care of the typical bumps and bruises, calling families and taking care of students and staff. Nurse Beth is a former PICU nurse and is amazing! We are so lucky to have her here with us at Glennwood.
COVID testing is happening at the Wilson Center each weekday morning from 6:30am-8:30am. We also now have tests for symptomatic staff and students in our school clinic. CSD is working to bring surveillance testing back to the school sites and we should have more information on that soon.
I have had some questions regarding the Test to Stay protocol, so I am linking it here for your to review. Please reach out to Nurse Beth if you have additional questions.
As a reminder each teacher checks the temp before lunch every day. Please expect that on days that are 45 and lower (or precipitation), in accordance with the guidelines from CSD that all schools are following, kids will be eating inside. We have one class at a time spread out in the auditorium or on both sides of the cafeteria.
There is no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Here are some great events and projects from Hands On Atlanta- some are virtual- to help improve our community on that day in honor of his work.
I am so excited about the PTA Read-a-Thon beginning January 14th. See below for more information. Our upcoming 3-day weekend is a great time to get started!
Enjoy the long weekend!

Principal
Important Updates from Nurse Beth
Symptoms
Keep your child at home if they are experiencing ANY symptoms. This includes fever, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, etc. Keeping everyone safe is our highest priority, and we will not be able to allow symptomatic students to remain in school, even with a recent negative COVID-19 test. If you are contacted by Nurse Beth, please have arrangements in place to have your child picked up from school within one hour.
Covid testing is currently open to students and staff Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 AM at the Wilson Center. If your student is testing to return to school from quarantine or illness, please provide a copy of the test (email or paper copy is acceptable) before they return.
Please follow the link on the QR code above for testing. This will lead you to the registration page for Mako Medical for Glennwood. We will have testing available soon!
Please review proper mask-wearing with your child and the importance of wearing it. It is imperative that students come to school with a properly fitting mask. Please make sure to pack extra masks for your child. Sometimes mask changes are necessary and we have a very limited amount of masks available.
If your student has been exposed or has tested positive for Covid 19, please complete THIS FORM, and I will contact you to discuss dates of isolation and quarantine. Here is a link to the current isolation and quarantine protocol Updated Isolation/Quarantine Guidance
COVID-19 Vaccination
If your child has completed their COVID-19 vaccination series (both shots), you can now upload it into the parent portal in Infinite Campus. If you are unable to upload it, you can email me (ebarrington@csdecatur.net) with a copy of the vaccination card. Once I receive the email, I will be able to update the information in Infinite Campus. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out through email or by calling the school at (404)370-4435.
MAP Assessment Results
Read-a-Thon begins on Friday, January 14!
The Glennwood Read-a-Thon, “Slide Into A Good Book,” is about to officially kick off! Read-a-Thon will start at 3:00 pm TOMORROW January 14 and end on January 24. Campaigns that are updated or set up by January 13 will be entered into a drawing for a prize.
Read-a-Thon is the main PTA fundraiser this year, so we hope you will participate! Funds raised by Read-a-Thon will help support Glennwood, including supplies needed for teachers, staff, and students, teacher innovation grants, school improvements, teacher appreciation events and gifts, school supply kits and Kindergarten t-shirts, and much more! Our fundraising goal this year is $5,000 and we can meet that goal with everybody working together.
Raising funds and logging minutes is easy and can all be done virtually. Log into your account at https://glennwoodpta.org/. Don’t have an account? No problem. Easy, step-by-step instructions may be found HERE. If you need help logging in or creating a campaign, please contact Jen Lewin at jsimmenlewin@gmail.com. Students can share their campaign site via email and/or on social media with friends and family who wish to sponsor and donate.
Prizes will be awarded to top readers and the class that reads the most minutes in each grade! Fun goodies will also be awarded for participation. Thank you so much for your participation in this worthwhile event and your support for our school!

Decatur Farm to School is currently recruiting new members to its committee.
Joining the Decatur Farm to School (DF2S) Committee is a great way to get involved with the work of getting our students outside in their school garden and making the connection to what they are learning in the classroom and eating in the cafeteria/at home.
