UMAC University News
May 1st 2015
Dear UMAC Parents
Next week concludes all of our testing in UMAC! As a rewards for our student’s hard work and determination the last two months, Mrs. Marks and Mrs. LaShelle are going to host a PARCC Picnic outside during lunch on Thursday, May 7th. The students and teachers will eat lunch with our fabulous administrators to celebrate their efforts (and that testing is finally over)! Please remember to pack a sack lunch if you did not sign up for a special lunch on Thursday.
Our Moraine Hills Field Trip is next Friday. We will be leaving Woods Creek around 9am and returning around 2pm. Please encourage your son/daughter to dress appropriately for the weather (hopefully sunny) and a 3 mile hike! All students will need a sack lunch on Friday!
Thanks for your constant support!

Science
This week in science, students have been working in groups to successfully grow their terrariums. We've been talking about living and nonliving environmental factors that are affecting the growth of our plants. It has been exciting to watch our plants grow and change over the last week. We will continue learning about environments in preparation for our science field trip next Friday.
Book Clubs
Our first round of WWII book cubs ended today. It was fun to share and discuss this historical event with our students, especially since they have so much schema from shared reading! We’ve decided to do another round of book clubs with our new WWII novels. Students will receive a new novel and group on Monday. Just like last time, any student who is unprepared for book club two times will lose the privilege of chatting with their group. Please help us in reminding your child the importance of taking ownership for their own learning!
Growing Up Unit (Old Friends)
The following information was handed out at the Parent Meeting last week for the Growing Up Unit, but I wanted to include it in case anyone wasn't able to make it.
