From the desk Mrs. Humphries
Gold Academy Families,
We held our first GOLD Pride on September 2. Our primary grades GOLD Pride time was in the morning and our intermediate grade levels GOLD Pride time was in the afternoon. What a joy it was to be able to gather as an entire school community in one location and celebrate student’s success and school pride. We truly look forward to creating additional memorable experiences for students throughout the year.
Now, as we continue to settle into a rhythm and routine this school year, I wanted to share some important information with you.
Student data:
All of our students have finished taking the NWEA assessment. NWEA is a standardized test that helps teachers identify a student’s academic strengths and opportunities for enhanced growth. Please ask your students how he or she did on the assessment. Teachers will have students set goals and track their own progress. All staff will be digging into their own classroom data to drive daily instruction.
Skyward
Skyward is a great way to stay up-to-date on your student's grades and attendance. Your child’s skyward account gives instant access to grades, scores, attendance and more. This is a great way you can stay connected to your student’s progress no matter where you are.
Social Emotional Learning
This month we have focused on setting up our classroom procedures and expectations. We are working hard each day to create an environment where we feel safe, and we are building a positive culture. We will continue to work on our school culture by using our District Culture Guide. This month,we as a staff and students have focused on Respect and Responsibility. This was very important to focus on these two core beliefs because we all come from different backgrounds and we must have common core values. During morning announcements and SEL time, we have had conversations about what defines us as a school community and that it takes all of us to work together to create the environment that we want to see. As we are building our culture, we are focusing on 3 pillars: Respect, Responsibility and Safety. Every morning students are reminded of : Any event may come up, and how we manage our response to any situation will affect the outcome of the situation. If we want a positive outcome we must manage our response to an event that has occurred. (E + R = O). I am very proud of our staff for modeling this with students every day.
Popcorn Friday!!!!
Thank you to popcorn moms Britney and Tiffany for all their hard work bagging and delivering popcorn!
Thank you to our parent volunteers!
It has been wonderful to see all of our Parent Volunteers in the building. Each Friday we make popcorn for our students to enjoy. Thank you! We appreciate all that you do.We truly could not accomplish this huge undertaking without our volunteers.

Notes from the Nurse
Vaping Guidelines
Decatur Township School Police Department, (DTSPD), in collaboration with the Drug Free
Coalition, is excited to offer a new diversion program for students found to be in possession of tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and or vaping devices. DTSPD has also partnered with our local courts in an effort to minimize the use of these products and devices on our campuses.
Our students, if found with the aforementioned items, would be in violation of Indiana Code 35-46-1-10.5, Minor in Possession of a Tobacco Product or an Electronic Cigarette or 7.1-5-12-8 Smoking in a Prohibited Area. Each of these would be met with an Indiana citation, also known as a “Uniform Traffic Ticket,” (UTT). When submitted to the courts, the cost of the ticket for this violation is $170.50. This is an actual ticket and will affect
your license or the ability to obtain one if left unpaid.
Our objective however, is not to create financial hardship, but to have an opportunity to
educate students and families on the dangers of vaping and tobacco products. Twice per month, DTSPD officers will present a 1-hour class for students who have opted to accept the terms of the diversion program. The cost of the class for a student attending alone is $75.00. If a student attends the class with a parent or guardian, the class is discounted at a cost of $25.00. Upon the completion of the class, the UTT, or citation, will not be referred to the courts, and there will be no record of the violation. A student may only participate in the program once per school year, and only twice throughout their
entire school career.
