Mr. Sellenheim's Greeting

The NEW Grewenow Family & Teacher Community (GFTC)

Grewenow Elementary School is excited to introduce the Grewenow Family & Teacher Community or GFTC (pronounced "Giftsy") This organization (similar to a PTA/PTO) is for any family member looking to be involved in their child's education and give back to the Grewenow School Community. The group has adopted by-laws, elected officers, and will become a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization to not only serve the school, but also raise monies to enhance programming for all Grewenow children.

The GFTC Leadership team is comprised of:

  • C.J. Mora - President
  • Michelle Ruggles - Vice President
  • Ben Borter - Secretary
  • Diannah Davis - Treasurer

Meetings will be held the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00PM in the Grewenow School library. All are welcome, membership is open, and if you are interested in learning more or, better yet, getting involved please contact

Academic Learning Updates

Reading, Writing, & Math Workshop

A huge focus for our teachers this year is the way students are engaged in the subject content presented to them. In other words, centering instruction around what students are doing. In most cases we want students reading (during reading time), writing (during writing time), and doing math work (during math time). Our vehicle for accomplishing this is the Workshop Model. What does that look like?:

Intro: The Mini Lesson

Teachers introduce a concept, skill, or idea for the day and may even focus on it all week. These ideas build on a central theme such as: Personal Narrative or persuasive writing.

Independent or Group Tasks

Students break into groups and engage in reinforcing activities. Some are facilitated by the teacher, others are independent. Students are active in gaining knowledge

The Closing

The closing is sometimes called "consolidation" where students revisit the main idea and put the mini lesson theme, independent skill work, and "big picture" of their learning together.

Grewenow Elementary Collects Boxtops for Education

If you see the Boxtops for Education logo (featured to the left) on any of the household or food items your family purchases, please send them with your child to school. The monies Grewenow receives from collecting the boxtops has allowed us to purchase playground equipment (jump ropes, balls), field trips, and even school supplies! It's an easy way for you to make a difference for your's child(ren)'s school!

Spiritwear Order Opportunity Coming

All of the new school logos have been finalized so order forms for 2017 Grewenow Spiritwear will be available to order online or coming home in an upcoming Wednesday Take Home Folder.

Keep the flow of traffic free

As you drop your student off in the morning, please be sure to use the correct lane to allow traffic to continue to move.

Thank you, again families for your help with keeping students safe in our parking lot and on the road. We appreciate your help!

Looking to Volunteer

We are currently looking for volunteers to assist with playground supervision for our K-5 lunch and recess periods.

Recess is held Monday-Thursdays from 10:30AM - 12:15PM. Commitment to all 4 days is not necessary - even availability 1 day a week can make a difference. Training on how to communicate and reinforce our school's playground expectations will be provided.

If you are interested in serving our school, ensuring students have safe place to play, and getting some fresh air, please contact Mr. Sellenheim at 262-359-6362.

Elementary Wrestling program in full swing!

Every Monday, 30 students have been joining Mr. Grover, Grewenow's visual art teacher, for the elementary wrestling program for our grades 3-5 students. The program is a fantastic experience for our 3rd through 5th grade boys and girls. The program will continue every Monday from 2:30 - 3:30PM until October 30th.
