MESSAGE FROM MRS. LAMBERT
Dear Parents
The construction for the new temporary portables is moving along according to schedule. The base rock was finished this week and portables also arrive this week. All construction traffic comes through the back entrance and strict safety measures are taken with workers taping off areas and escorting students across the area when truck traffic is present. The plan is still to have all students and staff that are currently in rooms 17-42 to begin in the temporary portables in January. Once the move into the temporary portables occur, then the old rooms will be fenced off and demolition of the old rooms will begin. If you have any questions about construction plans, please contact me and I will be happy to answer them.
Welcome to our new 5th Grade Teacher!
Please welcome Mrs. Amy Rubinich to Castro. She will be teaching the 5th grade students of Room 41 beginning on Friday, Oct. 28th. Mrs. Rubinich is an experienced teacher, having taught 8 years in Australia and just recently moved to California.
Best regards,
Theresa Lambert

Hallowe'en Activities
This year there are some changes from what has been done in the past. We are not holding the Hallowe'en Parade this year due to construction activity. Students can still wear costumes to school if they choose and classes may still have Hallowe'en activities in the room at the end of the day if the teacher is planning any. Also, this year no clown costumes are allowed at school due to the "creepy clown" nervousness the students are exhibiting.

FROM THE PTA
box tops for education
Please collect as many coupons as you can. Ask your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to donate them to your child's school. It is amazing how fast they add up and turn into money for Mariano Castro Elementary. Collect and turn them in to the collection box in your child's classroom or in the Castro office. The next collection date is this Friday October 28, 2016. Keep collecting Box Tops in the corner of your drawer all year long! You can turn Box Tops in at any time school is open during the regular school year.
reminder: Dear Mariano Castro and Mistral Parents.
Thank you, Mariano Castro PTA

Puberty can be a challenging time for children and their parents. MVWSD is pleased to offer free resources for families from experienced health educators.
Please join us for Parent Talk on Monday evening, November 7th from 6-8 p.m. in the Graham Multi Purpose Room. (Spanish translation will be available.) This workshop gives parents and guardians the tools they need to address a variety of issues that are a part of students’ puberty and sexuality.
The workshop will cover topics such as
Communication regarding family values
Changes during puberty and adolescent development
Using everyday situations as discussion openers
Media influences
Sexual safety
Relationships and dating
Practice in answering common questions from children and teens.
Health educators from Health Connected will facilitate the workshop. Health Connected is a local, non-profit agency dedicated to helping young people feel confident and supported to make informed decisions about their own sexual health. Health Connected is working with MVWSD to provide the District’s 5th and 8th grade Human Growth and Development programs and has been providing Human Growth and Development curriculum for most of the schools in San Mateo County for many years.
The workshop is for parents only, and childcare will not be available. In order to meet the needs of all attendees, we ask that you please RSVP here no later than November 1st.
