Literacy Corner

This week in introduced the students to the word wall words little and big. We reviewed all Letterland characters and letters taught thus far, while introducing the students to the Letterlander Kicking King (Kk). We began discussing the importance of reading fluently, which we will now do each week. During this time, and our guided reading time we talked about the characters in the story, as well as comprehension with each. We began our unit on Winter Celebrations. We learned about the holidays Hanukkah and Las Posadas. The students really enjoyed learning about the different holidays. Please continue to read with your child nightly, asking questions about the book as they read and have completed it entirely.

Next week we will continue working on reading fluently and comprehension of a story. We will introduce the students to the word wall words "and" and "on". We will continue reviewing all of the Letterland characters and letters, while introducing the students to digraphs. Digraphs are two consonants put together that make one sound. We will contine learning about different Winter Celebrations. We will also have a day related to the Gingerbread Man.

Math Lab

This week we continued to review counting to 100 by ones and tens. We also began learning about counting to 100 by fives. We also continued working on addition facts to 5. Please continue to work on addition facts with your child at home.

Next week we will review addition facts to 5 and shapes. We will begin comparing the different attributes of shapes. How are they alike and different.

Parental FYI and Reminders

I know I say this every week, but it is very important that all students remain on task during lessons, and don't talk while instruction is being given to the class. We have plenty of time where the students can talk to each other, during instruction is not the time. Please talk to your child about the school and classroom expectations.

Please note all of the special dates listed in Days to Remember. The next two weeks are going to be busy with academics and days of fun. We have a lot to get in before we leave for winter break.
