KEYSOR PRIDE

We are Respectful, Responsible and Safe.

An Awesome Full Week Ahead!

Last week was filled with some of the children's favorite memories from the month: Kate Klise visit, our 100th Day of School day-long celebration and experiencing the Planetarium with thanks to our district Science Curriculum Facilitator, Joe Bartin. Can't wait to see the joy that February brings!

In addition, last week we celebrated our friends Brayden and Elie for being selected as Students of the Week. Brayden worked really hard last week in keeping his focus and being a great learner, while Elie continued to shine through supporting friends and developing her writing talents. This week we are also back to identifying our classroom's Leader of the Week! We're looking forward to celebrating another friend who shines in their Keysor Pride!

Sight Word and Sound Focus

Our sight words this week are: drop, grass, train, queen, scream
We will also be beginning our exploration of word ending blends for 'mp' and 'ck' in words like: lamp, bump, clock and pick
Lastly, the children will be provided with a review of short and long vowel words, through sorting, illustration and/or writing upon their iPads.

Writing Workshop: Bold Words, Table of Contents & Final Publishing!

So, upon all of this amazing work, enhancements of our "How-To" books was desired! So, keeping with what the children were wanting, we are adding to their text this week, a table of contents, bold words and an "All About Me" page. Following these drafting extensions, publishing of the stories will be completed during the latter half of the week! Our hopes are to have the stories ready for sharing at our First Friday experience on Friday this week. Fingers crossed!

Adding Two-Digit Numbers through Decomposition

As we move into our new week, the children will begin their rotations, through practicing their adding of two digit numbers using the skill of decomposition. This skill is providing for the children breaking apart a number into it's tens and ones and then adding them together by their parts. To enable for the greatest of understandings, the children will be rotating through game explorations, independent practice, Dreambox explorations and guided lessons. This workshop model will be similar to our guided reading work, as the kids will be receiving focused instruction and experiential play.

Concluding our Patterns in the Sky Studies

We'll begin the week revisiting our planetarium work from last week as the children will be learning about constellations, how they were created, and designing some of their own! Then, we'll move outside for a bit as we study the clouds in the sky and consider their formation, color and what the weather changes are, while they are present. Perhaps clouds will be around on Groundhog's Day bringing us six weeks closer to Spring!
