Our Crenshaw Garden Market was a success! All the produce given out was harvested from Galveston ISD schools across the district. Thank you to GOFM's Young Gardeners Program, all the volunteers who helped make the event possible, and all the customers who stopped by!

Ball High Scholarships
Last week 38 Ball High School seniors were awarded scholarships provided by the Moody Foundation. Each scholarship is worth $16,000 toward tuition at any college or university in the state of Texas. To quality, the students had to rank in the top 25 percent, answer questions, and submit an essay.

Morgan Garden Interview

Ball High Valedictorian & Salutatorians
Ball High School is proud to announce its valedictorian and salutatorians for the 2020-2021 school year! Shashank Kota, son of Divya Nagpal and Venkat Kota, is this year’s top ranked student. There was an exact tie for number two spot between Emeline Howrey, daughter of Kristen Peek and Bret Howrey, and Ellie Gao, daughter of Yan Gao and Zucheng Gao. Read more about each of them here:

SMART Family Literacy at the Burnet Garden
Students observed live earthworms in the garden courtyard at Burnet Elementary school with SMART Family Literacy. Pictured here is a tray of compost ingredients that make great earthworm habitat! The students learned how earthworms provide important support for our garden beds. Making observations about the world around us is an important part of learning that can be easy to overlook.

Ball High JROTC
Ball High School’s JROTC’s Army Unit has been a long-standing point of pride for the Tors, and now the program might have the opportunity to truly take advantage of its proximity to the gulf and establish a Coast Guard Unit. To read more, click HERE.

Support for GISD Technology Devices has Moved
Technology support for student and staff Chromebooks, laptops, and other district devices has moved the former Alamo Elementary School at 5200 N ½ Street. Please enter through Door 2A on 51st Street. Normal hours will be Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Alternate Hours during STAAR Testing (through May 21) will be 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Fridays. We will be closed beginning June 1. An appointment for technology support can be made by calling 409-761-3933.

Bryan Museum Summer Camp
The Bryan Museum is offering a limited number of full and partial scholarships to its fun-filled history camp this summer! Learn more about the camp: https://thebryanmuseum.org/summer-camp/
Campers Eligible for Scholarships:
• Are students in Galveston schools
• Have completed grades 3-5
• Have a demonstrated need through enrollment in the Free or Reduced Lunch Program, CHIP, SNAP, OR are facing short-term financial issues or extenuating circumstances
