Message from the Principal
As December comes to a close, I would like to reflect on the many wonderful things that the students have experienced this year at Culver Elementary. I am not only reflecting on what they have accomplished academically but also on those moments that have helped them gain confidence, build character and/or have left them with a memory that will last a life time. For example: playing in their first basketball game, receiving a bee for good character, having a heart with their name on it hung on the Tree of Kindness, pledging to be drug free and/or receiving a letter back from our balloon launch, etc. Those are the moments that are so very special and will forever live near and dear to their hearts and to ours. As the winter holidays fast approach, I would like to extend a special thank you to our parents, teachers, students, staff and the many volunteers for their involvement in and support of Culver Elementary School. You are all so greatly appreciated!!! I can not express it enough!!! On behalf of myself and my staff, we would like to wish all you a safe, happy and blessed holiday season!!!
~ Mrs. Proskey

NWEA Testing
During the week of December 4th, your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). We give students MAP tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics. Your child will take the tests on a computer or iPad.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed accurate information about your child’s growth. Over the testing period, your child will spend a total of about 2- 2 ½ hours completing these tests over two days.
Each school year, students in grades K-5 will take the tests in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Following each testing period you will receive a report showing your child’s growth.
We are truly excited to watch your student’s individual progression of academic growth over the their years here at Culver Elementary School.
For more information on resources for parents, download the Parent Toolkit and/ or the Parents Guide to MAP- NWEA.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Proskey at 574-842-3389.
