Welcome back to everyone's favorite newsletter, The Paw Print! We have officially survived 2021! Phew! It sure has been a tough one! As we welcome 2022, remember the New Year allows us all to spread our wings, try new things and... eat chicken wings? This year, the Paw Print's resolution is to be 10x better than last year to keep our readers on track and updated throughout the new year!
The Paw Print hopes that our students' resolutions are to work harder than ever and keep those grades zooming through the roof! As always, Stay #BearBuilt!
The Paw Print can be viewed every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. The newsletter features sports updates, events in the community, and fun activities for the family... so stay tuned!
What's Happenin' in the DEN?
Georgia 4-H Peanut Recipe Contest Winners
Our winners won in four categories:
Best Overall- Brian Walker (5th gr.); Most Nutritious- Briggs Roberts (4th gr.); Most Unusual- Landon Sorrells (5th gr.); and Most Creative- Addy Fare (5th gr.).
Way to go to our Blakeney Bruins for demonstrating their elite recipe-making skills! Gordon Ramsey would be proud!
District Spelling Bee Winners
The first and second place winners participated in the district-wide spelling bee yesterday, January 11, 2022! Congratulations to Asa Murray and Dawson Mobley for taking home the first and second place wins of the District Spelling Bee!
Asa Murray, our first place winner, will represent Burke County in the region spelling bee February 26! Everybody wish him a big good luck!
SGA Elementary
Fifth grader Alexis Miller took first place in the Bee, and fourth grader Aaliyah Rhodes was the runner up!
Burke County Middle
The Burke County Middle School Spelling Bee was held Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
Asa Murray took first place in the Bee and Aiden Grubbs was the runner-up!
Blakeney Elementary
The Blakeney Elementary School Spelling Bee was held Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
Fifth grader, Jasan Luke, took first place in the Bee; fourth grader, Coty Smith, came in second; and
fifth grader, Kobe Doe, placed third!

WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE BOARD MEETING?
To better accommodate school district stakeholders, the Burke County Board of Education has set its 2022 regular monthly meetings for the third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m., a week later than its previous meeting time of the second Tuesday in the month. The meetings will remain being held at the Burke County Board of Education Central Office, 789 Burke Veterans Parkway, Waynesboro, GA.
The Agenda is accessible through Simbli. To locate Simbli, go to any of our Burke County Public Schools websites and select Simbli/Meetings in the top left corner of the page. Then, select Meetings, where the agenda will be posted each month.
On the day of the Board meeting, which is the 3rd Tuesday of each month, a link to watch a live- stream of the meeting is posted on the homepage of our district website under "Recent News."
If you miss the meeting live stream, the recording is posted on our Burke County Public Schools, GA YouTube Channel the following day.
Burke County Literacy Project
