Quick Note From Principal Turner

Good afternoon SMS Family,

I hope that everyone is enjoying the beautiful Carolina weather this weekend and that you are finding time to do whatever it is that rejuvenates and recharges you. The newsletter is loaded with pertinent and relevant information that will guide our work this week. Please take the time to carefully review the information and to be ready to apply it within your classrooms. Also, let's continue to solidify our usage of Kickboard and Classroom DoJo to assist us with our school-wide behavior expectations. If your grade level has not already determined the PBIS incentive that is aligned to Kickboard or Classroom Dojo, please do so this week.

Thank you for being amazing leaders and continue to press onward Spartans!!!

Report Cards Distributed on Wednesday, February 3rd

2nd quarter report cards will be distributed on Wednesday at 4:00pm. We will send report cards home in envelopes in the same manner that we sent our 1st quarter reports cards in. In addition to the report cards, the envelopes will include Saturday tutoring registration forms and Academic Support Plan notification forms for scholars in danger of failing. Grade level teams should determine how they will motivate and encourage their scholars to return their signed report cards and their Academic Support Plan Notification Forms (if applicable).

Saturday Tutoring Begins on February 6th

Saturday tutoring will begin on Saturday, February 6th from 9:30-11:30am. Additional registration forms will be sent home along with report cards on Wednesday. Transportation for Saturday tutoring will not be provided and there are limited seats available. If you would like to strongly recommend some of your scholars that are at the near mastery or mastery levels to participate in tutoring, please refer them to your grade level administrator ASAP.

Lock-Down Drill

We will conduct a school-wide lock-down drill this week. The time of the drill will be unannounced. Please revisit our lock-down procedures with your scholars and make sure that you are able to lock your classroom door. If there is an issue with the lock on your door, please notify your grade level administrator no later than Monday afternoon.

February is Black History Month

During the month of February we will celebrate Black History Month. In addition to highlighting contributions of African-Americans to our country during our announcements, I encourage us to use our curriculum as a platform to inform our scholars of the advancements that African-Americans have made in the various fields of study that align to what we are currently teaching our scholars. If you would like assistance with resources or if you have questions or concerns regarding this topic please don't hesitate to contact me.

Spring Club Session Coming Friday, February 12th.

Our spring club session will begin on Friday, February 12th. Grade level teams are encouraged to confirm how they will utilize clubs to reinforce character expectations, provide opportunities for academic support and to build trusting relationships with a caring adult in our building. Grade Level Chairs, please submit a list of club opportunities to your Grade Level Administrator, Myself and Ms. Eldridge by Monday February 1st. This will give us an opportunity to share our club menu with our community partners and hopefully provide them with an opportunity to lead or volunteer with some of our club choices.
